Hey /vr/, today was a great day for game hunting. What did you pick up? Pic related, I finally got myself a Sega Saturn and I'm fucking HYPE.

I was just thinking about getting one. Should I so that I, too, may be hype? It's like the one console I never had growing up.

I like my rocking chair. Not sure I've ever seen a grandma with a Grateful Dead "Space your Face" pillow though....

Tengen games are always nice, and that version of Gauntlet is surprisingly good. Valkyrie a best.

Nice! I'm so jealous, I really want a Saturn too. The import game is crazy.

Yeah I've been looking for the Tengen version of Gauntlet for awhile now, I don't see it very often and when I do, they usually want too much for it. I was only planning on picking up Saturn stuff today but when I was at my local retro game store and saw the Tengen Gauntlet for only $7.99, I knew I had to have it.

Side note: The 360 stuff in the picture was acquired at Game Stop by trading in a Red-Ringed 360 I no longer needed. Nothing like trading in a broken system you got for free and getting 5 games for it.

That version of Road Rash is also on the PSX (and 3DO lol) and it's freaking awesome. The Saturn library of games is criminally underrated. People say it's only good for shooters and fighters but that's just plain wrong.

>> No.2423424

>>2423410

I was under the impression that the model 1 was more desirable than the model 2. I figured it was similar to the Genesis where as time goes on, they take features away from the units produced to save money. Either way, they didn't have a model 2 at my store.

Also, what's the point in modding it when I can just get the action replay RAM cart so I can import games? I don't intend to burn games to play.

>I don't intend to burn games to play.

The other poster probably isn't a collector, which is a shame, cause the Saturn's one of those few games that's fun to collect for. (That and TurboDuo)

Are you not aware that the price of certain games is ridiculously expensive? Better off burning. Also if you're too afraid to mod you it's not required since swap trick works just as well.

Model 1 has slightly better video output than model 2.

>>2423445
Not true. It depends on motherboard version. A handful of model 2s (made roughly from 96 summer to 96 xmas) have a sync problem. But that is the ONLY difference in video quality - earlier model 2s in fact have model 1 motherboards, and later model 2s have the problem fixed.

I'm pretty jealous, OP. All the Saturns I find at the flea market are $80+ system only. I saw a top loader NES today too, which I've wanted for a long time, but the guy wanted $170.

Anyway, still had a great haul today. Didn't pay over $5 for each one of these.

That's why. To be fair, a lot of the pricier Saturn games are cheap as fuck imported.

I am aware but I just wouldn't feel right playing pirated games. As a collector, it would just feel cheap and gross.

You're wrong, I play video games every single day of my life. I'm also a game dev, so pirating makes me feel like a hypocrite, even on dead systems.

>>2423508

Besides the hypocritcal feeling, it can also where out the laser and disc drive faster, since the information on the burned disc won't be as well organized as a real copy of the game.

>>2423520

I have faith I'll find a copy at a garage sale or flea market for a decent price someday. Or the average price will drop to something reasonable as people move on from collecting for the Saturn. If neither of those things happen, then oh well, guess I won't play that game.

>>2424586
>$30 is expensive for a video game

There are still brand new copies of Saturn games on Amazon RIGHT NOW going for less than what they did when they released. I won't have any trouble finding stuff to play.

>> No.2424737

Since there's a bit of talk about collecting and hoarding, maybe I should bring this up and figure out the morals behind it based on your opinions.

Sega CD has zero copy protection, but also had games that cost so fucking much. So what, right? Saturn games cost a lot too, as do other retro games but the problem here is it's so much harder to discern whether a Sega cd game is fake or not.

>Snes/NES
Look for wires

>most cd based consoles
Different colours on the back, or simply the fact that pirates dont run normally

Now I get that you could just look at the back and glance to see if it's "partially written" but I'm sure bootleggers would be clever enough to write extra shit into the disc to fill up the whole 700 mb thus making the cd have 1 solid colour in the back.

My point is, because of this shit, should I feel bad for collecting cases and manuals, but burning the discs? I have no interest in reselling but I don't want to spend my money on fucking pirates. I am not planning to get many Sega cd games. Probably shining, snatcher, sanic, lunar, and some other shit once I actually read up what's worth getting (although its library looks like its mostly shit), but even those games cost a fuck load. I don't want to buy something and worry whether its a fake or not.
