How far Wacraft has fallen. I legitimately enjoyed the series up to WC2. What it's become now is almost comical.

I got into the series randomly off a WC1 demo included on some "100 game demos on a disc" thing I got from a friend who got it from god knows where. Hadn't even heard of Warcraft or Blizzard before that. Funny how the franchise took off.

How is Starcraft not the part of the same series as Warcraft? Obviously it's not set in the same universe but gameplay wise it's a clear continuation by the same studio. Are you also claiming Red Alert or Generals isn't part of the Command and Conquer series just because it isn't part of the Tiberium line or Age of Mythology isn't part of the Age of series just because it isn't Age of Empires?

Anyway, I find it funny just how much people praise Blizzard and Westwood when the former couldn't balance a game with everything identical but a handful of spells, switcheroo of upgrade points and a minor difference between trolls and elves.
They also had to piggyback on Westwood ideas (say, the mouse interface from Warcraft 2, the staple of any RTS ever was actually a last-minute change introduced after they'd seen Westwood's work on the interface at E3... they would have been using the Dune2/Warcraft controls in W2 if it weren't for that).

And Westwood, for all its great innovations was really more of a Chinese factory-kind of studio.
Oh yeah, another reskinned C&C game! Again.

In my honest opinion, Ensemble, Cave Dog and other innovators of the era deserve much more praise than those two.

I think you misunderstand what racism really is. I'll ignore the point where you're actually applying this to a fantasy setting and comparing it to a real-life medieval one for now(which makes your argument even less valid, but still).

Racism does not depend on historical context, political status of the world and a modernized humanist society just to exist. Just because a certain atitude is part of a commonplace reality, and generally not acknowledged as a problem, doesn't mean it's non-existent. And racism certainly wasn't without its detractors even in the darkest, smelliest of the medieval times, with many philosophers, churchmen and authority figures criticizing racist atitudes and having different stances on racial profiling.

You seem to be pressupposing racism is something that only happens when we're past the point of ethnic tribalism and warfare, despite the point that even in ancient history, it was not so much the case. Armies and tribes, especially larger ones, like the mongols you mentioned yourself, were composed of several different people with different racial and cultural profiles, that eventually ignited all sorts of conflicts WITHIN these same armies/nations (you have no fucking idea the trouble Genghis Khan went through to unite all these little tribes that hated each other).

Racism isn't either a point of being wrong or right in a case of mutual ethnical hatred and profiling, unless you think there are no issues of racism whatsoever in the modern western vs islamic world conflict, and it's "just warfare as usual".

That is a naive view on how global economy and power flow works, and a close reasoning to typical conspiracy bullcrap. I enjoyed all the Warcraft games (even WoW for a few months was okay near launch). WC2 has aged the best of them all though. WC1 is a pain to play now. And WC3 was ugly when it came out. I'd love remakes in the WC2 engine.

I actually just played through the campaigns last week for the first time. I'd tried them before, but never got very far.

The missions are really obnoxiously designed in that you need vision to 1) see the enemy coming and be able to defend efficiently and 2) find the fucking gold mines that are all over the place, but there are random enemy units scattered around the map who'll aggro on you and chase you all the way home if you're unfortunate enough to run into them.

This time I just said fuck it and used a map cheat to get full vision at the beginning of each mission, the game was actually moderately fun then. A bit simple though since all I had to do was build a line of upgraded spearmen/archers that would obliterate anything the AI would throw at me, build some catapults in later missions, and for the last missions I went full elemental/demon spam.
