I don't know what that is but holy cow the jaguar and everything that uses its mold is ugly.

>> No.2412889

Probably not. Seems like something that retro-fad hipsters will back, get a game for, and then forget about, leading to the console's quick death.

It just really seems like a bad idea to Kickstart an entire console. Consoles are only as interesting as what comes out for them and unless dev are chomping at the bit to make games for it I can't imagine it will get much more than the launch titles and maybe one or two failed games afterwards. The market for real old games and the market for something like this do not entirely overlap and for most developers (and gamers) it is easier and probably cheaper to just make or buy retro-styled games on PC or PS4 or XBOXONE instead of having to invest in an entirely new console (and for devs having to actually have production runs for cartridges, because let's face it this thing isnt going to get big name studios making games for it).

OP here, sadly that is my concern, I would like to get one, but I think the support will die soon, purely from the fact we are a very small niche, something an indie game like Shovel Knight can fill, but a console launch probably wouldn't.

I was hopeful for the Neo Geo X, but have they released any more games since the 1 SD card?

What the duck is the point of this thing? Jesus Christ of you want to put out a retro cartridge game produce it for fucking NES or Genesis or something. That Watermelon guy made tons of money off Pier Solar thanks to his bank switching tech that delayed the game's emulation long enough.

Producing a completely new console is fucking stupid plus I bet once you treat it down its just going to be an Odroid or something underneath.

I sure as fuck won't. The thing looks like it's just bait for game collectors who will buy up any piece of shit just so they can have it.

Nice name choice though, it'll make it easy to spread the word and help with Google searches.

I mean, fucking anything, they could have attached a 1000 on the end just to differentiate.

Pretty sure it wasn't intentional, rather it was probably the designers not accounting for proper dimensions, and/or a consistent manufacturing error.

It's a new console which some guy is trying to raise money for on kickstarter, it is planned to be a platform for indie games and it will use cartridges because the people behind it were inspired by how older cart based consoles still tend to work while newer consoles with lots of moving parts have relatively high failure rates.

So it's a new console which will play new games. I hate to be that guy who's always bitches about stuff not being retro, but this isn't retro.

>> No.2416450

A better idea would be to kickstart a cheap SNES/Genesis flashcart, and software to develop on them more easily. The patents for both consoles have expired, so you can legally make clones.

The novelty of making a new cartridge-based console is matched by the novelty of making your own game for a "real" console.

Everytime I see this I think of how retarded it is.

>Carts are inherently expensive (5-10 dollars), compared to discs which are probably 10 cents
>limit the system to be equivalent to an atari 2600-ps1 (what even)
>"We have a lot of devs already interested"

The hilarious thing is. Is its not the console. Its the games. I don't go "Oh I sure wanna play some Super Nintendo" I go: "Hey, lets play some Street Fighter".

The thing about game dev in a modern setting is that its fairly easy to actually port to Xbone/PS4/Wii-U from PC because the arcitecture is similar. If this thing is truly trying to be a throwback console and you have to code in assembly no one is going to do it. Guys who already do it (like Sivak of Battle Kid fame) are going to stick onto what they know, and not learn something new just because.

Its seriously the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The game that that faggot Gamester showed also looks boring as fuck and not even remotely groundbreaking in terms of 2D graphics or gameplay.

This thing is pretty retarded. What purpose would you have to release a game on this? I guess "Indie" devs are just too shitty at programming to make a game for the actual Jaguar.

To be fair, actually making a game for the Jaguar was a fucking nightmare, what with the "Tom & Jerry" processors.

Theoretically a very powerful system for it's time but goddamn if devs weren't tearing their hair out trying to make sense of it and getting the performance they want without the thing seizing up on you.

Even when I ignore every other stupid problem this thing has I still can't get over who thought using the Jaguar design was a good idea. Why the hell would you want to remind customers of one of the biggest console blunders in video game history whenever they look at your product? What the fuck was going through their heads when they decided this? This isn't even something I'm pissed about, I'm just amazed that someone could overlook such an obvious thing when designing this console.
