Fastest clear time party is Kevin Hawk Duran
They have the highest killing potential. Magic is just way too slow. For a first playthrough its helpful because of the utility, but once you understandt he gameplay mechanics, its incredibly easy to just go full melee burn and crush everything.

Honestly, magic spells take so long and Poto Oils are so easy that as long as Duran or Kevin is in Light you could easily do an all male party more effectively

Hawk all the way. I'm pretty sure he and Riese are the main characters. So she goes in there too. Add Kevin to the mix and you just fuck everything up. Used to go magic, but magic makes battles x10 longer. Then again I've only played this game like 10+ times.

Duelist: highest attack power, but it's so easy to hit 999 with a bit of levelling and bufs/debuffs that that becomes irrelevant pretty fast. Dark Sabre is good for literally one boss fight that you probably won't have Duelist for.

Swordmaster: slightly less attack power but more sabers

Paladin: Saint Saber, which might be nifty for the Dark Rabite fight, but not the best attack power. Shields don't work because of a glitch, which cripples him. Decent spirit for healing.

Lord: the weakest, but the highest spirit, which makes him a candidate for poto oils or even heal light. Shields still don't work, and the only one of Duran's classes without a full-screen tech.

So the answer is that SD3 is so broken that it doesn't matter what class you choose, they'll all be too good

There's a romance/extra plot development between Duran and Angela, Reis and Hawke, and Kevin and Carlie. They also compliment each other well enough in parties.

Hawke, Reis, and Duran or Kevin works out better.

pure mages kind of suck, but support/utility mages are god tier

Like that setup. Lise as Starlancer for buffs and for the cool Lvl 3 tech, Angela as Grand Divina for multi target Lvl 2 spells and Hawk as Nightblade for that Split Image Slice and blow needle.

I tried a Riesz-less game once, never again. Amazon for Life. Brotier, doesn't take shit, sensible, and the first fucking thing she does is literally go Rambo. She has it all.

Everyone else varies. Hawkeye because Motherfucking Ninja and he's pretty bro. Angela cause slutty sorc. Kevin because he's stupid broken as shit.

Indifferent to Duran, don't like Midget Cleric.


Honestly the game is easy enough you can just use who you want, when you want, how you want.

You have to keep in mind that Paladin only gets single target heal and saber.

Lord gets Multi-target Heal light and Tinkle Rain, which removes negative status.

Swordmaster also gets multi-target sabers, where as Duelist does not.

I personally like Duran as a Duelist or Lord, because I'm always going to go Kevin, and since his Dervish has the highest attack power AND gets Moonsaber Duran having other elemental sabers is irrelevant.

... That's it. I tried all characters and did one run with each as the "Main". I even forced myself not to pick Kevin to see other character introductions/interactions.
But when I replay the game every now and then, Kevin's always in the party. He's just too good AND fun to play. His normal attacks are just satisfying to use.
Hawk's double attack has a little too much delay to it and his damage tends to be awful.
Duran is slow as shit. Least favorite.
Liesz is also slow and most of her classes have underwhelming spells.
Angela is just the best magic damage dealer by far. She also often pops into my party because of it. But never as a main because she takes SO long to be actually useful.
Carlie is weird. I haven't really experimented too much with her. I always end up relying mostly on items for healing, and Liesz' buffs are all the support I usually need. I should probably test out her dark classes more.

... So tempted to do a new run right now. Fuck you, OP.

My first party was Duran (Paladin), Angela (Grand Divina) and Riesz (Star Lancer) because I didn't know what I was doing. Really slow party, but really versatile, I remember Duran's multi-heal was really necessary my first time through.

Second Playthrough was Hawk (rogue), Angela (Magus) and Clarie (Bishop). Again, a really slow playthrough and their magics were all terribly weak. "Learning" from the first playthrough, I opted to give my party strength+stam buffs for the early game, which crippled their abilities until I got the Ancient spell way late game. Hawk was super weak the whole time, his traps genearlly suck without agility but never-ending heals helped.

Played a third time a few years later as Kevin (God Hand), Duran (Sword Master), and Hawkeye (Nightblade). Kevin could heal-one but I always had 9 poto oils for multi-party on hand: facerolled the game hard. I recommend playing the game this way, because the biggest criticism of this game is how slow it can be.

gotta say that Angela is pretty fun to play as.
but I wish developers would have implemented some ranged standard attacks for her like it's the case in modern action RPGs where wizards just use wands that doesn't touch any mana points. her staff attacks do nothing.

also, Hawk being a ranger could make good used of a bow.

but that all would fuck the whole combat system over I guess.

currently running Duran, Angela and Rise. very cool group.

If you have Hawk but not Lise, she gets clingy when he leaves her at Rolante and acts jealous over Jessica. Can't remember if they have much chemistry when they're in the same party or not. Hawk ends up with Jessica regardless though

Angela/Duran I think has a few moments where Angela seems flirty if they're in the same party, but I don't think Kevin and Carlie have anything.
