What are some first person action RPGs similar to elder scrolls and ultima underworld?

>> No.2402036

Arx Fatalis

King's Field series. although Daggerfall, Might and Magic 6 and onwards as well as Arx Fatalis already cover everything.

also check out Betrayal at Krondor if you don't mind turn based party combat but free first person exploration

May as well offer up the entire Wizardry series too then.

Not really. Only Wizardry 8 has free (i.e. not tile-based) overworld movement.

Also System Shock.

Amulets & Armor.

Kind of.

I never liked King's Field.
but you got a total of 4 King's Field games in the series or even more, I don't know.

Shadow Tower is a bit better imo but I think that was a pure action adventure instead.

Second this.
If you want fantasy, go for Might & Magic (not Heroes Of - that's RTS), or Grimrock.

that's how it is. And I'm usually a fan or Souls games aesthetics but the way the first King's Field plays is just depressing.

i'm a battlespire apologist.

it's basically bethesda trying to make a TES game in the actual ultima underworld style, unlike what early TES started out as and branched into with the large overworlds and procedural generated dungeons and whatnot. explore large custom dungeon levels, run quests for npcs, scavenge loot to survive, no shops etc.

it's not a fantastic game and is pretty buggy and frustrating, but it's pretty fun to explore if you want to experience the true demonic spawn of uu and tes

Ponderousness of the controls is kind of part of the appeal of KF, your characters move like they're fucking battleships and they just have to live with it. You can't just whip about on a guy who got behind you, it really teaches you to be careful with your positioning and control the battlefield. Learning how to control well in a fight is not immediately intuitive and it's not like there's something tremendously deep about it, but it's rewarding when you get it right. All the KFs are slow as fuck to be sure but I like their controls fine.

>>2403917

There's no way you'll convince me that Shadow Tower belongs in different genre to KF, it's practically the only game that's comparable to KF series at all in terms of how it plays.

Battlespire is cool in concept in a lot of ways (just the idea of a TES game set on a space station is a winner) but holy fuck is it ever janky, ugly, and broken. The best executed part of the game is the character creator.

uh...I actually just forgot if it is an RPG completely the same way KF is or not.

I have just got into underworld and I was streaming last night (I'm not some e-celeb I just stream the gameplay and talk in the chat) well I actually had a viewer for once and he helped me change the sound settings to soundblaster pro. Anyone who is using the GOG version of underworld should do the same the game defaults to roland MIDI which does have some annoying horns in some of the songs haha. The SB pro music is amazing though.

You're even more retarded than they are, then. At least they're motivated by money. I fucking hate this world we live in now where people can't find the motivation to play a fucking video game without some retarded virtual audience to cheer them on.

>> No.2409241

oh fuck off I stream because my friends and brother want to watch sometimes. I have plenty of motivation to play that awesome game on my own I just turn on my feed incase someone wants to watch and chat. Sorry you're such an autistic anti-social faggot. As I said most of the time there isn't even anybody watching, so how can I be motivated by a non existent audience you fucking sperglord.

It's using your system's default midi device which isn't very good. Use bassmidi with some soundfonts.

I don't smoke in my room, and that "off brand" is way better quality than the 7-11 slurpee brand slurpees haha. I had a one from 7-11 the other day and it was fucking nasty, the only way I would go to sev again is if they bring back crush sour cherry otherwise I don't want their shit tier flavors that appeal to 12 year olds like bubble gum.

I've totally missed this genre back in the day, mostly because I was too young and English isn't my native language. Are there any recommended games to start out with? I'm mostly looking at tile based 3D traditional RPG's. I tried Wizardry 6 today, but it was hard as balls, got my shit wrecked so hard. Any easier entries to the genre?
