So I was playing King of Fighters Dream Match 1999 on Dreamcast, and when I was trying to start a single vs match against a friend, the game allows us to choose characters and then the screen goes black and returns to the Dreamcast menu. Can anybody help?

Set the clock on the device to pre-2000 and you should be good to go

Is this some kind of commentary on the board?

So, this would seem to indicate a y2k bug exists in a game released in 1999...

What the fuck, SNK!

I've got another problem, if anybody's still here.

Whenever I try to pick chizuru, the game craps out and goes back to the dreamcast menu.
Could it be a bug or a problem with my disc? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Original or CD-R? It honestly sounds like the disc or the laser is slightly fucked.

Most likely a scheme to encourage sales of subsequent shovelware that never materialized.

trolling aside, it's an issue with the pins on the power pcb coming loose from the mainboard. The random reset is a rampant problem with Dreamcasts.

You can either bend the pins so they contact the mainboard, or solder it down so they are always connected.

Interesting; I'm fairly sure I have a Sega Sports DC that needs a pot tweak. I should do that some day, but I do have like 3 other DCs I can fall back on at any time.

Happens to my Dreamcast also op
The solution for me is to run the Dreamcast case less, ie- remove the 4 bottom screws and remove the top half.
You have to manually hold back the CD lid switch
So that maybe the problem
I cleaned the power contacts and it didn't change for me.

I just tried that, and it didn't change anything.
This is the only game i'm having trouble with, too so i'm thinking it may be the disc

why am I laughing so much reading these

also, this whole thing reminds me of a thing I heard years ago (so it mightn't actually be a real thing) where someone had issues getting Sonic Adventure to work on his DC -- it'd go back to the BIOS right after fighting Chaos 0
someone told him to do just that (set the date to before 2000) and it worked

in this case it worked for like one match
