For cheap saturn games, I'd recommend:

-Dark Savior
-GunGriffon
-Pandemonium (US)/Magical Hoppers (JPN)

Dark Savior is an isometric platformer sorta-RPG hybrid. It's a little undercooked in some aspects but it's well worth at least a few playthroughs; there's nothing quite like it.

GunGriffon is a game whose controls take some adjustment but is all in all an excellent mech action game. Varied levels, interesting setting, and a great feeling of piloting an enormous, hulking machine.

Pandemonium is a fun little 2.5D sidescroller. Depending on your preference for character design there's also Magical Hoppers, the JPN-release.

As a word of advice that you might already know, these anons are posting games who are often scammed on to people for a lot of money. Some of them aren't worth it. An Action Replay 4-in-1 Cartridge will be necessary to play Japanese imports which cuts down on the grief tremendously when it comes to Saturn prices.

Be careful with Saturn game recommendations. I don't know what it is about the system that lets people excuse some real stinkers, like Sonic R and Bug. They're uniformly bad. I also don't like some the 3D fighters like VF2 (I don't like VF in general).

(as an example of "undercooked" in the image above more than half of those characters get maybe 15 minutes of screen time. It's still an enjoyable game though!)

The first thing you should get is a modchip. Holy fuck saturn collecting isn't worth it. There's a lot of great gems on the system though, poster above me hit a lot of them.

Yeah, I actually haven't found any 3D fighters on the Saturn that I enjoy. I didn't even like Fighters Megamix that much. The 2D fighters I played (mostly X-Men vs Street Fighter and Street Fighter Alpha 3) were excellent, though.

2D shooters are also great on the Saturn. I can't recommend Radiant Silvergun highly enough. DonPachi, DoDonPachi, and Sexy Parodius are also very fun.

Also, OP, get one of those Action Replays that expands your RAM (for fighting games) and allows you to play Japanese imports. Many wonderful Saturn games never received international releases.

Virtua Fighter is an acquired taste. It isn't easy to pick up and play like Street Fighter or other fast-paced 2D fighting games. You mash buttons, and you will feel retarded in VF.

But VF2's popularity has a reason, it's an amazing game when you start learning how to play, and I'm not even a big 3D fighting fan, never was a big Tekken or DOA fan, but VF2 is amazing.

>What are the best games?

Fire Pro Wrestling S 6 Man Scramble (up to 6 players with an adapter)
Bomberman (get the 10 player adapter)
Panzer Dragoon
Guardian Heroes

Plus a TON of arcade ports most of which are already mentioned in this thread.

I think there might have also been a compilation of Konami games for the MSX computers in japan? Can anyone confirm this?

Dead or Alive is really nice. I used to love Last Bronx in the arcades, but I don't have it for Saturn so I'm not sure how much it's just nostalgia.
Virtual On is god-tier.
I never liked Virtua Fighter.

>> No.2396798

think about 3D fighters on saturn is that most can be emulated in its original form with elsemi's model 2 emulator

I believe VF2 on Saturn has some extra stuff, like the CPU AI learning stuff.

I was going to name a list but the all people above me named a lot of good suggestions.
