I loved the space quest series, and I did play Leisure suit larries. But I was more into Lucasarts adventure games.

I played through Kings Quest 1-5 back in the day and a handful of the other Quest games. Space Quest was always the most fun and actually really funny. Also enjoyed the Black Cauldron game (they did that, didn't they?) and Rise of the Dragon.

Can't really into Roberta Williams because of what she did to an associate of mine but I have nothing against based Al Lowe. Leisure Suit Larry certainly.

My parents favourites were King's Quest 5 and 6.

My sister loved both Laura Bow games. They scared the shit out of me. I was scared of the Space Quest series at times though too, so I'm a big pussy. That guy following you in the 3rd one, and that alien who points at you and screams near the start of 4.

I personally liked Quest for Glory 1 and 2 best. I never got far into 3 and never tried the others.

>Favorites?
Space Quest, Mystery House, Mickey's Space Adventure, Softporn Adventure, Leisure Suit Larry and Kings Quest 4. I've really never stopped playing Kings Quest 4 and Leisure Suit Larry, Since about 1989 I've always gone back to those at least a few times a year. The longest stretches I've gone without playing those was when I was using particular operating systems that made it difficult (W.2k, W.Vista and BSDi)
>Ones you've been meaning to play?
Kings Quest 5, Space Quest 2 and 3, Police Quest 1 and 2, the rest of the Disney collaborations and the rest of the Hi-Res Adventures. Most looking forward to playing the Police Quests. Really want to play the other Hi-Res titles but don't know if I can install and play Apple II games on a DOS/Windows platform.

I never beat Colonel's Bequest, but I really only played it to find all the ways to die. Also, dat shower scene.

Might be a good time for me to ask this.

I've wanted to get into space quest for a while, but I wasn't exactly around in the generation the first few came out and the graphics and interface make it kinda hard to get into for me.

I know there's remakes, but if I'd rather play the originals, is there anything I can do/should know to make the experience a bit more fun for me?

Know that it's badass! Does ZZ Top play Sharp Dressed Man in any o the games you've ever played?! :^)
Getting into an old game can obviously be tough...like watching a black and white movie can be. One thing you can try is reading and learning about Sierra and Space Quest if you never have.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Quest_I
I also recommend downloading it and playing it in an actual shell like DOSBox or on an actual DOS platform as oppose to playing it through a browser; make it feel more like it would have and should have when it was released, if that makes sense.
Another thing you can do is try breaking yourself by playing a non-graphical parser game like Zork or Softporn Adventure (I recommend the latter as it has that Online/Sierra type of humor and dialog). That might help you get into a graphical parser game more easily. Also, if you start a "why should I play Space Quest" thread in /vr/ you'll probably get some awesome feedback
Other than all of that, make sure to save and save often. Save every time you earn a point, get an item, before and after tough spots, multiple saves in case you mess up...save, save, save. Sierra games can be pretty unforgiving if you don't save. Be a friend to yourself and use a walkthrough. You deserve it.

You should try a live-action walkthrough and play thread, see if anyone gets into it with you. You can post screen shots as you go and whatnot. That's a thread I'd hang around in. I wanted to try doing that for the first Laura Bow game but I was worried that not many people would be in on it. I'm now realizing that can be favorable though, less people cluttering the thread, plus I feel like more people like Space QUest than Colonel's Bequest so it might be a good balance of people posting.

My favorites are Kings Quest 5 and Quest for Glory. I find them both super comfy. Has anyone ever played this Robin Hood game I have been meaning to get into it.

I was obsessed with Caesar III + Pharoah as a youngun, and I didn't even own a copy of either for years after.
