What kind of sound device do you mostly use for DOSBOX? Gravis Utlrasound is a bit too muffled, the Roland SC-55 doesn't sound good outisde of DOOM engine games. And the Roland MT-32 sound is only good for a few games.

SB16 because that's what I had.

I should have said for music.

adlib because fm is cooler than pcm samples

Yamaha DB50XG for general midi.

You have hearing problems if you think muffled.

Most DOS games are obviously designed to have midi and sound lame in FM.

I had this card. As far as I remember, I'd check the "Roland" box for midi on my SSI games. By the time I really got into PC, most games had CD soundtracks, but some of my older ones still had midi.

Not necessarily true at all. For a better part of the late 80s and very early 90s most games usually had options for both. It depended on the composer, if they had any experience with FM synths, if the music was good or not. Obviously sampled audio is good for things like string instruments but FM was better at percussion and effects.

Roland MT-32 is still the best option for me.

you are know manually realizing that because the midi music in dos games was composed to be played with toy synthesizers, game-midi is a chiptune

first off, learn english, second off, no one has ever said that DOS game music wasn't chiptunes, wtf are you even going on about?

OPL3 which is adlib/sb. Whenever I hear the Amiga version of a game it just doesn't seem right.

You realize the MT-32 isn't designed for midi right? Only games that natively support its feature set can bring out its true abilities.

There is quite alot of games that do support MT-32 like the Sierra adventure games. I really like how the Roland MT-32 has that 80's synth sound to it

use bassmidi and make them sound any way you like them to sound. assuming you find a soundfont(s) you like. or you create your own damn samples.

Whatever sound card is in the machine I use to run those few utilities that I need dos box for. Since they're text only I don't think they even touch the sound card except maybe for the pc speaker beep.

I have a keyboard plugged into my DOS gaming machine for MIDI on that.
