Hey, /vr/. First time making a thread here.

Anyway, I thought we could maybe have a thread about the GOAT, most content heavy, most customizable games in existence, the Fire Pro Wrestling series.

But the main reason why I started this thread was to announce and discuss a project that I'm working on. I'm currently in the process of making a pack of 7 or 8 saves for Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the game's original release in March 1996. And I thought you guys might be interested in a preview of what I'm working on.

CONTINUED IN NEXT POST.

I've got these saves in various states of completion so far:
>WWF Classic (basically the original Hogan run in the company, give or take, covers roughly 1984-1991 for the most part, after that was more or less the start of the "New Generation" era. pretty close to done with this one)
>Lucha Libre (basically the major lucha promotions over the decades, tons of guys from El Santo's era to the present, roster is more or less finalized, still needs some work though)
>Ring Of Honor The Early Years (roughly 2004-2010 or so because I was working with formulas that were really out of date so the roster ended up being out of date, nearly finished)
>Chikara (most of the major figures that have worked with the promotion over the years, not even close to done with finalizing the roster)
>Misc. Independent Promotions (mostly a combination of PWG and hardcore feds with some misc. other guys, still has a lot of work before it's done)
>Territories 70s-80s (most of the major wrestlers from this era, ends roughly around when WCW starts, still has a bit of work to do but not that much, roster isn't finalized yet though)
>Golden Age (actually more like "everything from before 1970" though mostly focusing in the "Golden Age" of the 1950s and the period shortly thereafter, some wrestlers go as far back as Farmer Burns, needs tons of work)

I might also do a Japanese save, but I haven't decided yet.

Super Fire Pro Wrestling Queen's Special also turns 20 this year, so it's possible I might make a save for that, but I dunno if it'd even be worth the time, so we'll see I guess.

I plan on having everything out in 5-10 months.

Any opinions, feedback, requests for wrestlers, or ideas for how to make the saves better is extremely appreciated.

I can also post screenshots of what I have so far upon request. I can post up to four wrestlers in a single screenshot so you can request several at a time.

And if no one cares then Fire Pro general I guess.

I'm using about 10-20% (tops) appearances by somebody else, most of the movesets by various other people (with modifications), and the rest is all original work.

Yeah, I watch a lot of videos for putting the CAWs together. I watch mostly old school and indie wrestling anyway, so whenever I watch a match I just take notes for the moveset. The lucha wrestlers were fun to make because I don't normally watch lucha and it was cool to see all this new (to me) stuff.

OK, cool way to spend time on these games. Both games are SNES, you're playing on a emulator I suppose since you're making savepacks?

Personally, the one I've spent more time on is on a non retro one, Fire Pro Wrestling Advance. After that one I've played only a few hours on Fire Pro Wrestling D, emulated on a PC.

These games, well the ones you can get your hands on one way or the other, are an absolute must have if you're a pro-wrestling fan and like vidya games.

>you're playing on a emulator I suppose since you're making savepacks?

Yeah, I'll have everything available in emulator save files when I'm done.

The GBA ones are really cool. I don't know anything about Dreamcast emulation though.

Agreed on the last part. My all time favorites. Great gameplay, the best content, literally infinite replay value.

The Dreamcast emulator I use to play D is DEmul, and I'm loading a translated version of the game that's not so hard to find on big emulation sites.

>They are more important

That's great and all, but remember that I have to actually MAKE these things. Some of the wrestlers that I made were chosen only because those were just the ones I was able to get complete movesets for. This is ESPECIALLY true for the lucha save in part because I know next to nothing about lucha wrestling and was seeing most of the wrestlers that I made CAWs of for that save wrestle for the first time as I was putting together their movesets.

Another thing you have to consider is the difficulty of finding videos for old school wrestlers. American wrestlers were on TV so often for so long that it's not as much of an issue, but lucha dudes are another matter entirely. I was lucky that El Santo and Blue Demon, both of whom there is next to no surviving match footage of, had been in so many movies because I made most of their movesets from the wrestling scenes in their movies and written accounts of their matches. For less famous lucha guys of that era this is just not possible.

>>2392657
You see how they automatically reach back and then grab each other's shoulders when their sprites touch?

When the palms of their hands hit the other dude's shoulders you enter the command for the move. Whoever is quickest without being early wins the grapple.

You need to start with weak grapple moves (Y), then after the other wrestler's taken a few hits you can do medium grapple moves (B), and once they've taken heavy damage you can do strong grapple moves (A). Other non-grapple moves (standing, running, corner, top rope, grounded, etc.) can be done at any time.

>> No.2392757

>>2392705
And the moves are just [direction] + [button] right?

For GRAPPLES, it goes like this:

>FRONT GRAPPLES
WEAK
>Y
>Y + Up/Down
>Y + Forward
>Y + Backward
MEDIUM
>B
>B + Left/Right
>B + Up
>B + Down
STRONG
>A
>A + Left/Right
>A + Up
>A + Down
HOLY FUCK MASSIVE ASS KICKING MOVE
>Y + B

>BACK GRAPPLES
WEAK
>Y
MEDIUM
>B
STRONG
>A
>A + Up/Down
>A + Left/Right
HOLY FUCK MASSIVE ASS KICKING MOVE
>Y + B

Then there's standing strikes done with Y or B or A, running moves done with Y or B, running counters done with Y or B, running to corner moves done with Y or B, corner "grapples" done with A (not strength/damage reliant and can be done at any time like the non-grapple moves), pinning moves done with B (differs based on where you're standing and whether they're facing up or down), ground submissions/strikes done with A (differs based on where you're standing and whether they're facing up or down), irish whips to the ropes/corners done with X plus the direction you want them to go, plus SOME guys can jump over the ropes or jump off them with A and MOST guys can lift a cornered opponent onto the ropes with either A + Up or A + Down and then throw/slam/etc. them off the top rope by pushing A when the palms hit the shoulders. You can also climb the corner post by pushing Y + direction toward it when in the corner and then jump off with some attack or another (doesn't work for everybody).

Each wrestler also has ONE "hidden" move that's done by pushing Y+B in a NON-grapple position of some sort. This differs from wrestler to wrestler.

Wrestle Angels is legit, man. Best "card-based" battle system in gaming.

I dont read moon, is this also a fire pro game?

>> No.2401339

>>2401064
No. It's the closest thing there is to "Fire Pro Arcade" though, but it uses fictional characters and slightly different gameplay.

Whatever happened to that guy that was translating that Blizzard Yuki game?

>> No.2405625

>>2403264
If he ever gets the translation done someone should really make a translation patch for the game.

I think I have some screenshots he made. I'll try to dig those up and post them later.

Was there never a 3D Firepro or wrestling game with this kind of customization? What about the Japanese AKI releases?

It seems like all Japanese wrestling games needed this customization with so many companies and of course no rights for the western guys.

>> No.2410206

OP said Fire Pro as a series so I figured I'd post this. If Returns isn't allowed here, I'll just stop after this post, no biggie.

>Was there never a 3D Firepro

Yes. It was TERRIBLE, which is why they went back to 2D.

>or wrestling game with this kind of customization?

King of Colosseum is basically 3D Fire Pro done right.

>What about the Japanese AKI releases?

Basically No Mercy with japanese wrestlers and MMA stuff.

I really wish someone would translate SFPWSpecial's story mode instead of wasting time re-translating Final Fantasy 7 again or other stupid shit.

>> No.2411174

Is there a firepro with more american style match types? The only one I have played is fire pro returns and I was disappointed no ladder matches. How does X compare to returns?

There might have been a site with translated screenshots at one point? I can't remember for sure. Either way it's not hard to figure out what's going on.

>> No.2411191

>>2411174
I don't think any of the games have ladder matches.

X Premium was basically the game that set the template for everything in the series that came afterwards. It has some hit detection trouble with the ropes, submissions are LUDICROUSLY overpowered, and there are less wrestlers and less moves, and you can't do nearly as much with the Create-A-Wrestler mode. But the gameplay is basically the same for the most part and it's stupidly fun.

Hey, what do you guys think about adding Tugboat and The Orient Express to this to fill out the remaining four save slots?

How about instead of Tug Boat you put in a WCW classic like the Shockmaster!!! Same guy that was Tug Boat was The Shockmaster: Fred Ottman.

Maybe a bit off topic but does anybody know if they got around to translating the Pro Wrestling Special story mode?
I've gotta know the details as to why the main character killed himself in their words.

sure mate, I just remembered Shockmaster... how about Virgil; there's Million Dollar man but no Virgil in your list.

Do you guys think "The Natural" Butch Reed (32 on the list) should be in this? Does anyone even remember him?
