Just installed RCT2, and just having played RCT1 before I'm not familiar with block brakes. I've read that running coasters in sectioned mode reduces the risk of crashes caused by trains stuck on the track, but what happens during a station brakes failure? Is integrating block brakes/sections into your coaster designs worth the trouble, especially on shorter tracks that don't really need more than 2 or 3 trains?

As for is being worth the trouble, here's Block Brakes for Dummies: put a block break right before the station. It's that easy.

You can definitely get more complicated with MCBRs (http://www.rctmart.com/fossil/BlockBrakes.html is a good 'proper' tutorial to how they work) and a well blocked out coaster can achieve significant throughput without sacrificing safety. However, for most coasters, just putting a block brake right at the end of your normal end-of-ride break run is enough, especially for shorter ride times.

tight helices are very intense when you go through them fast (same with tight turns). I haven't played the game in a while but from what I remember anything with a tight twist (inline, small turn, corkscrew) is best taken at around 40km/h and under.

Transmission of sound is usually halted by reflection, not absorption. Trees might have some effect but they generally scatter randomly rather reflect back, so you end up with a well transmitted sound that caries a different timbre that you'll be familiar with if you've heard a distant sound in a forest.

Intentional sound dampening is also based on reflection, hence the use of solid, non-scattering walls on freeways and such, unless the purpose is a studio, in which case absorption is used.

Has OpenRCT fixed any of the guest pathing glitches / improved guest pathing in general? On some of my larger parks, I end up getting "dead zones" where guests get in infinite loops until they get redface and my park rating drops. And now I've added a Mine Train coaster. Because of the station's location, it needed an initial lift hill and then a return lift. There's a MCBR inside the outcropping, in addition to the two at the top and bottom of the return lift. What would you cover the supports with? There's so many supports for the track I can't think of any reasonable way to replace/cover them.

The trees and bushes are where they were at the start of the scenario, I just cleared out the ones directly under the track.

The area to the lift was naturally blank, but since the terrain is to much of a mess to put a ride there I was trying to figure out what scenery to put there.

>> No.2395405

Pretty much entirely so that it looked like your normal pre-station brake set. In real life, you wouldn't have just the front car held by your block brakes (not nearly enough redundancy, as brakes IRL aren't perfect and magic like they are in RCT), so the rest are decorative brakes to keep with how it would look if it was real.

in my opinion, scenery is more important than ride layout/design, as far as aesthetics are concerned. you can have an eldritch tumor meatball of a coaster and it won't matter if you build scenery appropriately. your coaster itself may not be the most visually pleasing, but the way you've laid out your scenery and the way the coaster flows with the landscape do a lot to distract from that.

Try and lay down some dirt / semi-dirt under the coaster and throw down some bushes, shrubbery around. You could also put some angled supports on your lifthill.

That reffering to the ride or the building? The ride I will agree is a bit too small, though I'm not really sure how to expand it while keeping it flat like real-world versions of these rides. Question for all the people who don't completely suck at building coasters: To what extent do you plan your coasters before starting to build?

My main problem seems to be that my coasters start out well enough, but I end up building myself into some situation where I can't finish the ride without either resorting to something super awkward or changing everything I've already done. Do you generally plan your coasters out before you build, just start building and work as you go, or something in between?

I usually have an idea for the basic layout in my head

>> No.2402884

>>2402873
I'll have a general idea when I start, and I'll improvise from there.

Using >>2395356 as an example, to start with I wanted it to interact with the opposite canyon wall before the first break run, and I wanted it to do a turning drop into the cliffs. I also wanted the station on top of the mesa, which left only one good place for the large lift. I also wanted the coaster to sprawl out into the canyon. The specific layout happened as I made the coaster, and wasn't planned out in advance. I also tend to make an alternate save and experiment there before going back and building the final design on the original save.

>I also tend to make an alternate save and experiment there before going back and building the final design on the original save.

I never really thought of doing this, thanks. I hate neglecting the rest of the park while I fuck around with a coaster, but the lack of context in the coaster designer doesn't help me solve problems.

The ride. The building and scenery are great, so I don't know if you could keep the charm while enlarging the ride.
>>2402873
I pick a coaster type that I think would suit the location best. Large, open landscapes get wooden coasters, but a smaller, hilly area would get a looper. You shouldn't be afraid to build a little smaller.
Also, work on an exit strategy. How will this track get back to the station? Should I get it back with a tunnel, or will I have room for sweeping helices before the brakes?

Hey, for openRCT2, I cant open quite a lot of my save files, the ones with the locks on them. How do I get around this? Ive never really worked with openRCT2 before and I want to.

Run as administrator.

Ok, when I boot into the game (normal rct2) it shows all my saves, but just going into my program files it only shows the saves that I can open with openRCT2

>> No.2403657

>>2403652
Because you ran RCT2 without admin privileges (because Windows is shit). Press the windows key and R, and enter "%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore" with quotes, then go to the RCT2 folder and copy the saves to your normal program files.

What does everyone think?

The Enterprise ride was a last minute addition to the top of the building. Both coasters jumped +0.25~ in excitement so I kept it.

Heh. Thanks. I tweaked it a bit. Added to the crest hill over the station and wrapped back around into the helices. Added about ~0.25 excitement. I don't think I can get much more from this one...

It's certainly possible, see pic related. The biggest problem is guest pathing, but as long as you give the people direct roads to where they want to go, you should be okay.

Building a park this big brings a lot of other problems that you wouldn't expect.
