I guess technically speaking it frees up resources for the emulators that would normally be used running background processes and unrelated utilities.

It's an easy to install simple package. Just less things to setup. And I believe it just boots directly into lakka, instead of a more standard Linux OS and GUI. This makes it feel much more like a standard game OS. Like a console.

Lakka became the "official retroarch distro" or something like that. Also the video is outdated as fuck, this is how the lakka menu (now called XMB) looks like now.

Ill stick with XBMC and advance launcher for roms

I just don't see the point. Yes, I'm a big GNU/Linux freetard myself, but you can't have that control every aspect of your life.

Like, at work, I use MS Word. I work with complex documents, and LibreOffice often has incompatibilities. Similarly, GNU/Linux works just fine for emulation, but it's not great for PC games, so I have a dualboot. And since I have a dualboot anyway, I have all my emulators on my Win7 partition. It just makes logical sense.

I just don't see the point.

retropi project loads up emulation station. Only game I've had issue with so far is Zelda OOT for N64. I believe they're trying to fix the issue in mupen64. I run it with some wireless xbox 360 controllers for the newer stuff and the bufalo snes gamepads for the older stuff. Super easy setup and guides everywhere.

That vid was old. It was more a work in progress at the time, and the Pi is a weak system. Use a P2 or later.

Here's a more recent vid, showing PS1 emulation:

Except Windows offering worse performance and higher latency on everything but yeah it makes great sense to go with the shittier technical solution just because.

I don't bother dual booting personally... I used to manage computer repair dept at bestbuy. Nothing but fucking retards worked for me. We had a bin of machines that customers left because they "couldn't be fixed" to be recycled or what not. I've got 2 recent macbook airs, One gaming rig, 4 windows notebooks, a chromebook, and 3 linux machines...
Since it was all getting scrapped anyway I just got this shit for free and fixed it.
Mind you no scheming was involved... I'd just come to work and find shit in the "unfixable/recycle" box after a few days off.

This is for standalone machines man. Like for those people that create emulation arcade cabinets, or for people who get a raspi and just connect it permanently to their TV as if it's a console. That's the point of this. Obviously you're not gonna use this on your desktop computer.

>> No.2390375

>>2390368
Why would you dual boot when you can much more easily just run an emulation? I get it if your desperate for processing power or ram. It's just a hassle though when you need to work on one file with throughout multiple os's. My go everywhere work machine is a macbook pro, running parallels for windows, and virtual box in windows for various linux os and older windows distributions. It's not a gaming machine though it does have a couple on there.
