I'll start off with the final battle in 4, where you literally beat up Fou-lu into making him believe humankind is cool again.

Ryu and Fou's wills where being imposed on each other, he conceded in the end because Ryu's will was stronger.

Not really. All the games are self contained but a lot of familiar things pop up in terms of world building

You prefer being embraced exclusively by the people you share your interests with, that's pretty much everything I ruined. 2 is vastly superior to 3 and 4 in terms of characters and story while those two didn't improve on anything worthwhile while moving to the next generation console which is pretty lame one came in the end of PS1 lifespan. Breath of Fire games on PS1 don't stand a chance against my favorites on the console (Parasite Eve 2 and Dino Crisis 2) technologically, gameplay-wise and story-wise.

I think it was by design. For a lot of reasons.

1. The whole purpose of the game was that the good of humanity can't be judged by the wicked and Fou and Ryu's battle was to give humanity a second chance, even if that meant letting scum bags like Yuna go.

2. popular fan theory is that 4 is the prequel to all of the games and that Yuna is the one who not only gives deis her snake body but creates the false goddess Myria

3. Nothing is pointless because it's all these events who shape who we are and who we become.
