You guys play old games, right? I just got done with Broken Age and now I want to play more (better) adventure games from the 90's. I know there's a ton of them on pc, but where do I start?

Check out all the ScummVM games. I really like Beneath a Steel Sky.

As far as "where to start", you can't go wrong with Monkey Island.

This. Beneath a steel sky is free and had a very nice dystopian atmosphere. I found some of its puzzles to be a tad too obscure, but nothing that will negate the fun of the game.

BASS is a pretty crappy game that ONLY has the atmosphere going for it. Dorky voice acting, pixel hunting, generally annoying/fiddly puzzles overall. I feel like the only reason people have been recommending it in recent years is because it's free and they want to feel like they're promoting some forgotten classic. There are much better adventure games.

How about that Indiana Jones game?

If you're thinking Fate of Atlantis, I highly recommend it. The game is interesting in having three different 2nd acts that converge on the 3rd act being the same with minor differences (there's a Mass Effect joke there I'm sure). Good puzzles, a bit easy over all, and a decent Indiana Jones style story.

If you're thinking Last Crusade, then I would suggest against it until you're more used to a few of the more difficult Point and Click games.

Grim Fandango is pretty good, but not the GOAT that all the hipsters say it is. It had great writing and likeable characters, but it suffered from really clumsy controls and some really obtuse puzzles at a couple of points.

Anyway, more recs:
>Gabriel Knight series
Completely different art direction with each game, but this is regarded as the best adventure series ever made. I'll admit that I haven't finished these yet.
>Monkey Island 1&2
Classic Lucasarts quirkiness. I personally didn't like the acting direction they took in 3 and on.
>Sam and Max Hit the Road
Goofy characters, silly premise, all-around fun game.
>The Longest Journey
My personal favorite, though technically not retro.
>Maniac Mansion
For a bit of history about the revolution in adventure game UI, and it's a silly and funny game to boot.
>Day of the Tentacle
Sequel to Mansion with some memorable characters.

Always have to give a shout-out to TeenAgent in these threads. It deserves way more recognition than it gets.

fucking great with some rainymood

Also, the King's Quest and Quest for Glory series. Not always great, but they have historical value.

Colonel's Bequest is pretty fun, but nearly impossible to beat without a guide, though it's really about trying to find all the ways to die (and the shower scene).

Basically all the lucasart games. But like all P'n'C games, the "puzzles" are retarded and mostly nonsensical.

Start with Secret of Monkey Island and work your way through all the Monkey Island games.
