I've played PS I, II and IV but never touched III. I finally want to give it a shot, which story route would you recommend? I've read that all four final stories are pretty much the same but one or two of them are more detailed.

>> No.2377520

If you take the non-obvious choice the first time you generally get the better storylines.

Also, PS3 is a completely different game that just was rebranded to raise sales. Expect it to be a lot different from the other four.

Sean is the most versatile descendant and the strongest tech user in the game (highest skill and has access to every tech except Order), but Crys is a physical tank with the best HP, attack, and stamina. Don't bother with the other two.

Rebranded? Got a link?

>>2377525

Dafuq man? Aron and Adon are carbon copies, and practically have the shortest stories, considering they start with four party members(though admittedly, Sean starts not that far from his fourth).

I can't find anything online, I read in a game magazine back then that it was speculated it was supposed to be a completely independant game and was just named Phantasy Star for the extra sales. There is nothing alike between the previous games and PS3, most notably the first two are cartoony scifi-fantasy mesh and then 3 is almost purely medieval with a much more photorealistic approach to the character artwork. From what I can tell the teams did not share a single member as well.

>> No.2377559

Ah okay, it seems to be a bit different.

http://www.giantbomb.com/phantasy-star-iii-generations-of-doom/3030-18253/

>At the time, Sega was feeling pressure to compete with rival Nintendo, and had cannibalized much of their top talent from the previous Phantasy Star games to form what was to become Sonic Team. The change in focus forced the company to assemble a new group to develop the third Phantasy Star, and they turned to the relatively inexperienced crew that had recently finished the Genesis port of the arcade classic beat-em-up, Golden Axe. Director/Writer and Lead Designer Hirondo Saiki had done some minor development work on Phantasy Star II, but apart from him, none of the Golden Axe staff had any experience with the Phantasy Star series at all. Nonetheless, series director Rieko Kodama felt that the new faces would serve the new, "fresh" take on the series.

But in the end, it's just a completely different game. Whether they got any of the original staff back for the last one or not, whoever made that game got the whole look and feel of the series right again.

Some people are really attached to their characters. Character design was arguably the strongest point of PS3.

Also the game turned 25 in April and it's literally one day younger than Fire Emblem series.

Well, there's one patch that makes the game a liiiiittle less shitty.

It doubles the speed and allows diagonal movements. It's useful, I guess. I used it.

it annoys me that there's almost no good loot in PS2 dungeons and recovery items are scarce, forcing you to return to town often.
But beating them makes me feel really good. It's a damn accomplishment. I don't think I would have fun completing a PS3 dungeon however.

I guess he means because they are too linear? You will not need a map at any point in PS3 (like the last one mostly, but there I did not feel it was a big detriment)

Aron's route is the shortest and easiest by far. Crys' is the hardest and the longest. Sean's story is pretty cool, and iirc Adan's technically breaks series canon.

Personally, I find the second generation a lot more interesting than the third - and Ayn's route is a lot cooler than Nial's. You'll learn more about some early events in-game if you take Ayn's route, and you'll get to see both satellites, if that matters to you. Lune was probably a better villain than Siren, even though Siren was cooler by far.

>>2377690
I've been looking for this one for a long time now - can you give me the name of the author (or a link, if there's an archive of them somewhere)?

>>2377776
PSIII's dungeons were pretty uninspired. There are a few good ones, but most of them are just a flat grid with obstacles.

>>2377687
Hm... first time through, I think I got Sean's route. Sean and Aron were always my favorite paths, as cool as Crys and Adan are.

>>2378104
>canon
Eh, debatable. It fits into the series canon, but so do three of the other endings.
