The movie basically killed it, and the reviews are a shadow of their former selves.

It was way better when it was James reviewing games he actually had that were frustrating as fuck as a kid, and you could nostalgia with him and tell his frustration was coming from a real place, instead of the forced shit thats been coming out.

The movie just fucking sucked too, that is wasted potential. Instead of having a good plot they just nuthug the fans constantly. Shouldn't have made an AVGN movie, should've made a fucking B grade action/horror movie.

Since a decent amount of this thread seems to be about the AVGN, I'm curious if anyone else has actually gone back and tried some of the games that he's played. Dr. Jekylll and Mr. Hyde is probably one of the only games I gave up on beating. The shit that Jekyll has to deal with in that game is unreal.

I don't mind James Rolfe, he's a nice guy and if you ever watch videos where he's just himself he's got a decent sense of humour and has a burning passion for filmmaking that I haven't seen paralleled

I just think when he makings reoccuring characters they tend to end up in "Simpsons Territory" where they overstay their welcome due to popular demand and end up declining in quality. I think if he made one-off movies and tried to throw his AVGN persona in the trash can and start a "new life" of filmmaking, he could become a respected member of the community and make some decently good movies.

Carmageddon 64 is the worst game I have ever played. I love Carmageddon so of course I thought Carmageddon on N64 would be awesome, but what I got was:

Worst game I've ever played? Probably Dirty Harry for the NES. Yeah, there are a lot of other games that could more easily take the title of worst, but it really depends what that means.

Like worst desgined game is probably action 52 or something along those lines, but I hate dirty harry more than those kinds of games for another reason: it makes you think it's a playable game that makes sense when it's really not.

I felt like a fucking idiot playing this game, and maybe it's more clear with the manual, but when playing this game, the more i played, the worse things got.

"Oh, I have a gun? neat, time to use it on everything"

And then i ran out of bullets and i knew i jumped somehow mashing buttons, but I couldn't quite figure out how. A? B? A and up? A and down? B and up? B and down? Select?? (And this is the point when I realized I had an item screen...and wondered why I had all this stuff in it already. A hot dog? what in the world is this good for??)

But no, it was A and B together, probably one of the weirdest things you could map jump to in my opinion. I understand it's because he also has items to use and a punch, but they really should have simplified things. Also, there's no health display on the main screen, you have to pause to see it. Was it really that hard to put it there when most other games ever managed to?

There's so much "where the hell am I and where do I go" in this game too. One minute you're walking around on the streets, the next you get captured by enemies throwing a net to access a different part of the game, the next you're in a pitch black sewer with no clues on what to do.

Some streets you can walk down, but some buildings with a similar looking indentation you can't enter.

Games like action 52 or E.T. I would probably open up for about a few seconds and then stop, but this game made me feel like I wasn't in on some secret or something that had i figured it out, it'd become a good game.

With the GTA5 example they didn't have online until they patched it in later. There were other things too that didn't come till later patches.

These kind of practices will make it very difficult to ever preserve a game when patches are required just to have the complete advertised game. It's not added content we're talking about here.
