Dos was my childhood. We didn't have the money to buy consoles, but my dad used a computer as part of his business, back then the windows 95 was $3000, he had a friend that would put games onto CD-ROMs and would let us have a copy. I would get to screw around and play the games. No manual, Couldn't type all to well, text based games were hard. Wolfenstine 3d and quest for glory vga remake were my favorite games of my child hood. those were simpler times.

tl;dr, I love dos games, they are my childhood

also, god tier dos games thread.

At the risk of sounding like a casual, what are some good "entry level" DOS rpgs?

I want to play something challenging, but don't want frustratingly hard.

Well, I was born in 96, so dos definitely was not my childhood (the first gameboy pokemons were).
But I can't stand how nowadays the industry forces people to buy more and more expensive hardware to play games that aren't even challenging, so I am going to go back to the origins. My humble laptop is still extremely more powerful than the machines dos games were meant to be played with.

This nigga gets it. I do all my PC gaming on a laptop, no fucks given. Modern shit just doesn't appeal to me at all anymore.

Dat Jet swoop. Damn awesome. Omf2097 is the only game I never stopped playing. And I've been playing since it came out. I'm not even a big fan of fighters. I think the game has a very cool atmosphere and the combat feels really smooth overall.

I have been playing Al Qadim an action adventure game, I never see it get mentioned and its pretty darn good so far. It runs on the same engine as the dark sun SSI games.

Sam and Max hit the road
Day of the tentacle
Full throttle
Indiana jones and the fate of Atlantis
The Dig

Still to this day some of my favorite games of all time, if you're going to play one of those make it day of the tentacle. All those classic Lucas arts games were masterpieces. Highly suggest them all

It is a fun Zelda-like. Probably overlooked because it isn't very deep and wasn't hyped at all back in the day. I loved it when I was a kid, one of the first PC games I owned.

Any really good obscure games on Dos, spooky stuff preferred.
