Am I wrong for not liking this game?

I'm on the boss at the dwarf caves. Music's alright, but the combat isn't fun and the story's nothing to write home about.

Is the next one in the series a better entry point? The one that only has a fan translation?

I tried this game and really wanted to like it but I gave up on it because I just didn't get the combat. I think I stopped on a tiger-like boss.

you're wrong for making a topic about it online, because honestly who gives a fuck.

Others feel the same.

You might like the next one better. I've always felt the bullshit hitstuns were lessened in the third game.

Secret of Mana 2 is the best game ever created, although Terranigma may take that spot once I beat it.

For me it was weird, and it took me a while to get used to the ring system. I played it and didn't understand the gameplay. I replayed it a few months later and I totally loved it.

That game is a real grindfest although you don't need to complete the game.

Sabers are OP in that game. Full 100% life steal by moon saber is broken, flame saber stuns and burns enemy. Really, everything about magic in that game is broken.

The game is a lot more fun with a friend (or two) and really makes you appreciate what can be done without the AI. That being said, it's kind of love it or leave it I feel. If you didn't like the combat, then I wouldn't expect you to like the game. This was the first action-RPG that I played and loved it.

The music really isn't that great on its own, but there are fan covers of the music that make it feel way better. If interested, look up Spectrum of Mana.

I just replayed it 5-6 weeks ago and it definitly has some heavy flaws in there, you're not too far so keep it up a bit and you might grow to like it. The fighting system can be fun once you figure out what to do, usually bosses that seem hard can be pretty easy when you realize what to do.

>>2368419 for example gave me a headache as a kid but when on my replay I didn't struggle at all since I kept moving to not get stunlocked all the time.

Story itself is alright but most plot twists get hamfisted in there and then left alone as quick as they came. Many stuff was cut from the game because of cartridge restriction, I think it was about 40% and it shows. You should be fine when you lower your expectations, it's still worth playing through imo.

SD 3 was the best mana game, although it suffers from the same flaws but not as heavily.

The only part where you're wrong is that you're asking strangers for approval of your personal opinion. I rather liked SoM, but I wouldn't tell anyone they're "wrong" for not liking something. Not all games appeal to all people. I've never really liked Super Mario games. Meh.
