Can anyone suggest some more niche JRPGs I may have missed?

I don't mean shit like Wild Arms/Breath of Fire either, even more niche than that.

The real niche stuff is on computers and obviously untranslated.
I'm currently playing Chaos Angels on the PC-98 myself but there's a lot obscurer stuff out there and I only scratched the surface so far.

I just picked up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, and I am super impressed with Phantasy Star II.

If you ever played PSO, or even if you haven't, it's mega fun.

Some of the good ones had console ports too, with enhanced graphics and voice acting.

Emerald Dragon is a really interesting RPG with a pretty dynamic and addictive battle system where you only control the main character. One curious thing about this game is that every version released is different from the others.

I'd recommend playing the Super Famicom version if you cant read japanese because it's the only one translated, but the best one is the one on PC Engine CD.

>> No.2347669

There's a translated Taiwaneese Genesis RPG named Barver Battle Saga: Tai Kong Zhan Shi or something like that.

It's actually pretty good in spite of being a pirate cart.

Add Romancing SaGa 3 to the SNES.

Also, there's Final Fantasy Adventure (the first secret of mana) for the gameboy, and the Final Fantasy Legend (SaGa) games, also for the gameboy.

Despite being labeled Final Fantasy, even few diehard FF fans know about them, or played them.

That means they aren't as obscure. Most niche are probably doujin titles that were only released on a single platform instead.

>> No.2347837

>>2347794
Niche is kind of relative isn't it?

Your average person most likely hasn't heard of a single game in this thread.

You don't have to get super obscure to the point that three people on Earth even know the game exists to be niche. Far from it, really.

Even games that break a million in sales are considered niche if you look at the big picture. Pretty much every JRPG that isn't Final Fantasy is niche.

>> No.2347853

>>2347794
>Most niche are probably doujin titles

Good luck finding some of them now... there are so many lost doujin games, even the ones that were made by famous circles from those years are hard to find.

The only franchise to get any kind of mass appeal is Final Fantasy. And Dragon Quest in Japan.

There's a ton of lesser known RPGs, most just haven't been translated. Most are just garbage and not really worth playing, the PS1 especially has a ton of awful crap released only in Japan.

Check out Lagrange Point and Tao for the NES. Both have been translated.

>> No.2348164

>>2347574
You could try Mystic Ark for the SNES. It has a fan translation.

>> No.2348318

Thousand arms is kind of niche. Vanguard bandits too for a tactical jrpg. And not too shitty, either. (Thousand arms has crappy combat, but overall is a fun romp)
