So, in DRL, what is the point of the Technician, exactly? I can understand that he gets more mod packs and such, but by endgame that's completely useless, does he have a perk I'm just not aware of?

Seems really weak in comparison, granted he might get off to a better start, but if I wanted to be OP early game I'd just go Scout.

>maybe make explosives do double damage
>faster projectiles, more damage with non-hitscan weapons
>allow more modpacks to be used on specific items
>megaexpensive tech-only modpack that applies all compatible mod pack effects to weapon (IE bulk and power and agi and tech and firestorm, at the same time)

Give me some shit to use eh?

I obviously don't want something that's Chillax-Tier Immidiate Fuck you.

Optimal settings:

At least 1000+ monsters in later maps
Good synergy with Doomrla
Escalating difficulty.
Little to few Chillax-Traps until later maps.
Notable architecture and level design.
Good for a beginner's first foray into Slaughtermap territory.

Technician will not have any combat based bonuses ever. He's designed to have a whole bunch of non-combat bonuses.

As of latest dev stuff...
He starts with a random basic assembly.
He starts with a random basic modpack.
He can break down non-standard weapons into modpacks.
He gets better effects from some armors like the Frontline Engineer Suit.
He can reroute power to the DRPG teleport in the Outpost faster.
He gets a discount on the amount of turret parts needed to upgrade DRPG turrets.
He can hack DRPG crates easier.

He'll probably get even more stuff going forward too, Technician is nothing to laugh at.

So its still the exact same problem then.
Slightly better start, subpar at mid to late game.
Unless you would get seriously starved for exotic modpacks, the only benefit is the extra turret from engineer suit. He wont even be the explosive guy with a faster assembly of nano napalm / autocannon / mother in law when the new classes come.

He really needs something that isnt "more modpacks" or "bonus to some specific armors that you wont find 99% of the time".

Pretty much everyone thinks the Marine and Scout are OP. The only other class that people complain about is the Renegade when they dont abuse juggling and already have a good enough armor that makes his +50% meaningless, but you're addressing this already with insane shotguns in the next update it seems.
The Technician has virtually nothing going on for him after modpacks start to pile up and this happens in every megawad that is not filled with forced death exits.
It would help a lot if there were more expensive assemblies that other classes couldnt reasonably make, like a 3~4S. All the big ones need nano packs and scavenging gives you 20 times more sniper mods than nanos.

If you ask content creators it's because his work is 95% other people's work that he barely credits if he credits it at all, his code is a mess, and people constantly ask for other projects to be made compatible.

If you ask the SJW Doomworld crowd it's because he triggered them.

DIfferent guy.

Just played through this wad and I loved it.
I really liked how it kept ammo scarce and forced the player to fight some of doom's more powerful monsters with nothing more than a shotgun and a chaingun. Never found one of the seven secrets either, and spent most of the map without armor. The geometry is confusing and the fight with a cyberdemon in a maze that makes no sense is superb. To be fair, also that he loves to talk mad shit about everyone else and thinks that his supposed success (as if making a popular mod for a 21-year-old game is at all a drop in the sea) makes him immune to all backfire.

The reason that he probably gets more flak over it than other people in other communities is probably due to the Doom community being a bit atypical; there are not very many communities where so many have created content (maps, source ports, mods, etc.) for so long in such great quantity for free.

Someone coming in and proclaiming themselves King of Doom when they aren't Romero or Carmack rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

It's also a case of putting his money where his mouth is and not having room to fit.
When he says Brutal Doom v20 will have "new maps made by me, much better than the ones included in the original game", then he should be aware that he is going to get completely ripped a new one should he fail to deliver. And, frankly, he's not going to deliver. He's not going to make better maps than the original creators.

Mark is a good mapper, but he's not Romero. There's a reason Doom's level design is still studied, speedran, dissected, and hailed as some of the most memorable of all time though quite frankly Doom 2 can take a long walk off a short cliff.
And to claim that he's going to map better than the original developers is both blindingly arrogant and unbelievably shortsighted.

Still working on Hellcastle. I guess my definition of "speedmapping" lacks the whole "speed" part, but that'll probably come with practice.

I keep alternating between wanting to work on the layout and wanting to detail.
It'd probably be better for me to pick one and stick with it, but every time I make a room I get disgusted by just how bare it looks and I can't help but vary up the linedefs...even if just a little.
And then I do test runs to check and see if there's any HOMs or broken sectors and DAMN THIS LOOKS SO BARE.

What do you usually do, anons? Do you layout first and detail later, or detail rooms as you finish them, or what?

Since a lot of people join the modding community by making BD variations, it perpetuates shitty coding habits and the belief that having your mod require 5 minutes to start up due to a torrent of errors and also having it break elevators throughout it's 6 years of development is acceptable.

There's also the issue that Sgt. Mark IV has been modding for Doom longer than it takes most people to get a PhD and is still coding at a novice level.

I really really wish he would either take the time to learn, fix it himself or at least get someone competent to un-spaghetti his code.

That also drove people mad. He talked some of them out of a whim for original works and credited them afaik
But for a big pile of work that is BD he took from many people and never credited them. After a while he eventually tired of seeing someone bicker at him for sprites ripped from some other game. That kinda damaged his reputation and nerves. So many spriters, some are original some are not.

Smooth Doom as it doesn't completely break the game.

Think of Doom as playing a game of chess, each weapon is representative of each piece. It's valuable in certain situations, and in others unusable. Now let's take a chess board and say fuck it, any piece can move in any direction whenever it wants. Jumping back and forth across the board et cetera.. that's what Brutal Doom does.

I do recognize the irony of comparing a game like Doom to Chess, but sorry I'm bad with analogies. I just think the gameplay was fine the way it was :/

Though I think deadlines with money on the line would be reason enough to not get caught up in such details, and due to how new everything still was.

I was just watching something last night in which they decided to throw out all of their research and referencing in military bases away due to how dull they were. I was going to try stairs originally but it would've been pretty annoying with 3D floors, I dunno, I guess it could've impacted the design and play a lot but it was already very crowded to work with .

Generally this map would've been 100% easier to make if I had just used pseudo non fog teleport stairs for each tower floor but the challenge was to make it room over room zdoom way so.

I really like when mappers go for this type of detailing. Looks very nice, while still looking like it fits within DOOM's aesthetic.

Unlimited linedef/sector detail can be good if done right. But some mappers go way too far with it, resulting in overdetail that looks goofy. Bloody Steel comes to mind as how do to it the wrong way.

Some mappers that go for this style of detail also fall into the trap of designing the layout around the aesthetics, and not the gameplay. So even if they do make the detail work and look great, the level ends up not being fun to play.

Correction, Bobby did the sound design for the Arch-Vile, the rest of the monster design was a joint effort with Adrian and Sandy (who is a huge Lovecraft nerd, bless his heart) as well as the talented Gregor Punchatz who made the posable metal/latex model after Adrian's design.

Bobby hit the nail on the head with the sound design though, fits the monster perfectly, and I bet everyone was very pleased with the results.

The finished result is one of the scariest vidya mofos of his time.

>As I said, I am BANNED. I no longer accompany ANY threads on the forums, neither the ones with 1 page, or the ones with 50 pages, because I don't visit that place anymore.
It was happening even back when you weren't banned; fairly often someone would get a bug up their ass and want someone to have BD compatibility or for a modder to implement BD gore and they must hate BD or be jealous if they hadn't done this extra work and then whatever thread would be derailed for a couple of pages. It didn't matter to established larger mods that were already 50+ pages in, but for smaller ones it did.

>Yes, I had noticed those, but they were not specific enough. Somebody downvoted my wad ArmageDoom on idgames and specified in the review that the wad feels dated because it is not compatible with Brutal Doom. I thought it was just this kind of "harassment".
I usually don't count idgames in stuff like this just because everyone on there appears to be retarded (and I'm not talking about BD related stuff.) I meant comment sections elsewhere; on gaming news sites and youtube and other video sites, for instance. Though a case could be made that the issues in those places are just due to their comments sections being terrible regardless.

fixd.

I doubt it can be counted as "apologizing", expecially considering that after that, he continues to do exactly same thing.

What happened in ZDoom forums:
>Mark stirs shit up with his attitude and stolen resources
>Drama ensues
>Players tell him to stop it
>Mark says "nope, lol, my mod is popular hur durr"
>Mods tell him to stop it
>Mark says "nope, lol, my mod is popular hur durr"
>drama continues
>Mark eventually listens to reason
>Mark stirs shit up again with the real gore
>Players tell him "don't do it"
>Mark says "nope, lol, my mod is popular hur durr"
>Mods tell him "don't do it"
>Marks fans flow in and stir shit up further
>Mark eventually listens to reason
>Mark stirs shit up YET AGAIN with the stupid jokes and acting like an ass
>Players tell him "don't do it"
>Mark says "nope, lol"
>Mods say "we have enough of your BS, Mark. Stop, or we'll ban you"
>Mark says "nope, lol"
>Mark gets banned.

Same pattern is seen everywhere he goes, because apparently, mod popularity means "get away scot-free card" to him.

I also love Brutal Doom. But I dislike Marks attitude.

>Why is it so terrible that people have fun playing his mod?
It isn't.
>So fucking what if people don't like his opinions. He takes the bans, the shitposting, and keeps putting out a damn fun mod.
He's also a self-aggrandizing asshole that apparently refuses to do the slightest thing that doesn't directly benefit Sgt. Mark IV and is completely thankless to the entire community that, without which, he could not have made his mod. See: this thread, where he refuses to add a single line somewhere on the download page for BD because of a grudge held against a minority of modders from two years ago.
He also actively contributed to and stirred up the shitstorm surrounding BD on a regular basis back when he hadn't been banned from most forums--his interactions with others and general behavior are a significant reason (not the only reason, and it's not entirely Mark's fault, mind) the mod can still provoke a shitstorm to this day.
It didn't have to be this way. It really didn't. Both the community in general and Mark himself would be better off if it hadn't turned out this way. But Mark chose to act the way he did, and here we are.

You need to make a zandronum IRC account then register with bestever, after that it's pretty straightforward

The site I linked has all what you need to know to make a server.

I don't know if this is particularly more accessible than messing around with the inbuilt doom-seeker server maker, but I suggest BE because it's pretty much guaranteed to work.

I know how to make a server in doomseeker. People can join my server. I know how to forward ports, i'm not a retard.

But what i can't figure out is how to load a pk3 file. Push comes in a pk3 file. Everytime i try to make a push server in doomseeker it wants to run off an IWAD like doom 2 or something.

Thus being stuck with the push gameplay but in E1M1.

What i'm trying to figure out is how to load the Push maps properly instead of it wanting an IWAD

Just set it to push 01.
Or you could also load a config like

MARK.
Are you still here?
Got another bug for ya. preeety gamebraking

Spilled blood hurts monsters.
And they attack the monster spilling it - shoot demon with a shotgun, blood falls on a baron, baron attacks demon.

I think you messed shit up with explosions again.

This is GZDoom.

Simple check - walk right at the zombieguy shooting at ya. Players blood will hurt him, and he'll flinch in pain as he shoots at you.
Pinkies flinch as they eat you. Imps flinch as they charge you.

Man, those demos really don't like hurting you, do they?
