What do you do with your broken consoles? Games too I guess.

>> No.2321302

I usually open them up and try to fix/refurbish them. If it's totally busted, I still keep them for parts. Same with games.

How the hell does OP's pic happen to a console?

I usually drop them from a very high place.

I do this to my old computers when I build a new one from scratch.

There's always that one kid who left sticky things on the console. Ants happen to sticky things.

I have a second genesis that just started randomly freezing a couple seconds after booting and now only ever gets a black screen. Pretty sure it's a busted voltage regulator or something. I plan on maybe fixing it up over the summer when I get the chance.

I also have a second dreamcast with a fucked up laser assembly. No amount of pot tweaking gets the thing to run discs, so it's useless for now. I'm keeping it around on the off-chance that I ever bother getting one of those disc drive replacement boards.

Didn't you have that one dipshit friend growing up that thought it was a good idea to use his console as a coaster? I definitely knew some people that let their systems go to shit so badly you couldn't pay me enough to touch them, let alone play games on them.

they just sit in a box in my room
my Saturn's been busted for a while

also, that picture is making my skin crawl
I'm literally rubbing at my skin, checking for them, haha.

>>2321501
>as a coaster
fucking why
that being said, I also knew people dumb enough to use game discs as coasters (working ones, natch)

plan on sticking an amd apu into and old shell and turning it into an emulation machine... other than than I cant think of anything worth doing.

>> No.2321562

If they fixable I just stick them in a drawer and will probably look at them as some point.

If they're fucking gone I'll just use their parts to fix other consoles or sell them to hipsters who make lunchboxes out of PS1s to sell on etsy or whatever

I always keep both. The console on the off-chance that I might one day be able to fix it, and the games because what else would I do with them?

My old Playstation has a busted CD drive, but it's also one of those units with the parallel port in the back. I'll keep it around just in case the PSIO chip actually amounts to something.

I never understood people who do this because I've never seen it in person, but I did have one friend who's idea of organizing his n64 games was the equivalent to not evacuating for a hurricane

>> No.2321612

Fix them, usually not that hard if you understand basic electronics.

>> No.2321785

I keep them thinking I'll need them in the future for some project I never even thought of yet but then never do anything with them. I do this with so much shit because every time I throw out something broken a few days later something comes up where said broken thing would come in handy.

>> No.2322313

Try to fix it by myself or somebody else good at electronics. If can't be fixed by those ways, then put it on sale and hope somebody else will give it a better use

Best thing to do with broken console is to keep it for parts if you plan on replacing it some day. I've repaired old consoles this way. I go on ebay and buy a "for parts" console usually one with a bad disc driver. Swap parts and end up with a functional console.

Anything other than throwing away the console is always better.

Usually give them away if I can't fix them. My brother has my old 40 gig ps3 and 360 in his storage unit. Don't think he ever did anything with them.
