You guys own compilation games, right?

>> No.2312838

I only have Sonic Jam, Mother 1+2 and I guess you can count Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP a compilation too.

I remember being excited for Mega Collection when it came out, but then I realized I could just emulate the games on my computer. Not having Sonic CD was a bummer, and then when they released Sonic CD on the Gems Collection, it was a faulty version of the PC port. Disappointment.

and I dunno if this is an problem with the original game or not, but some of the backgrounds in Sonic the Fighters have a fuckton of issues (like Tails' stage, where you can see around a curve in the river in front of the wall -- Model 2 games do have a damn lot of things like this (last Model 2 machine I saw that clearly exhibited this sort of thing was WaveRunner, some games like VF2 and Virtual On don't seem to have any shit like that)) and lots of flicker

But what is Egg Man really going to do? More than likely he will lock Snively up in a dungeon cell and feed him old bread for about a week, then somehow, because Egg Man is a retard, he will escape and do whatever it is he does.

Street Fighter Collection.
Sonic Gems Collection.
Mega Man Anniversary Collection.
Mega Man X Collection.
And the Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol 1.

Besides Gems, they have all been really solid compilations.

Do they? Last time I checked they were still just pumping out the same old Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Mario Kart/Mario Party etc.

Up until SEGA died in 2004, they were constantly creating new IPs and new games. If Nintendo had made Panzer Dragoon it would have been a Zelda game with Link riding a dragon. If they'd made Monkey Ball it would have been a Kirby game. If they'd made Crazy Taxi they would have shoehorned Mario in there somehow.

Not that they would have made Panzer/Monkey Ball/Crazy Taxi. That would be trying something new and taking a risk. Better stick to jumping around grabbing mushrooms and the same old Zelda formula.

It's insane to accuse SEGA of "milking" their old games when that's all Nintendo has been doing for decades.

Chu Chu Rocket is flash game tier, if they included that everyone would consider it a joke
SA2 and Crazy Taxi 2 is saved for their next collection obviously. Probably Jet Set Radio too.
Daytona wouldn't be possible due to licensing issues (it would be possible but Sega can't be arsed to spend more than the minimum necessary to get these ports running)

For Virtua Fighter and Shenmue, if they'd ever port those, they'd be admitting that Yu Suzuki makes good games, and they've wanted nothing to do with him after the Shenmue fiasco.

Which sucks because VF is by far the best fighting game ever made.

Lack of budget re-releases enforces the mentality that you will buy their games at full retail price when it's available, otherwise you'll miss out for good. Missed out on Super Mario All Stars on Wii and now it's a hot commodity? We're not re-releasing it but you better buy this Kirby collection now before it's gone for good! Missed out on Ocarina of Time on 3DS? Better buy Majora's Mask now, kid!

In all honesty it probably loses them money more than anything, but it's the only theory that makes any sense. Nintendo is stingy as all fuck anymore. They always kind of have been, but it's been especially apparent for this decade in particular.

Sonic Jam has a buttload of content and is all neatly organized, manuals, movies, special stages, difficulties, artwork, etc, etc. Even the game selection menu is cute as fuck letting us stack the cartridges on the Sonic & Knuckles one. And to top it off the Sonic World hub world is just beautiful, I used to just walk around and visit the buildings in it constantly and imagine how great the future looked for 3D Sonic games, little did I know what was actually coming.

This argument is so fucking silly
You are comparing huge teams of absolute industry leaders of their time backed financially by gaming conglomerates to small teams of 2 or 3 youngsters. And they're mostly only programmers and if they're lucky they get one artist to help out as well.
Obviously it's okay if you don't like faux retro indie shit, you don't have to dumb down your tastes for the indie flavor, but making that comparison is preposterous, specially when I see people expecting SNK pixel art quality when even back in the 90s very few games even reached that peak.

It's what sticks out most in those shots, and why the faux-retro crowd misses the point. Games through all ages strive to overcome technical limits. Most of the stylistic contrivance of old games is an artefact of that process, not an ideal the devs had in their mind.

Be aware that lots of the things in those shots were pre-rendered in 3D and cleaned up from the renders, not hand-made from scratch.
