Anybody from Germany or Austria here who remembers Screenfun and Mausklick? I always read Mausklick. Looking back, it was a pretty bad magazine.

My younger brother used to buy Screenfun and I read it too. Kinda garbage magazine but fond memories of a better time. I still remember some pages very distinctly, like a feature on Silver (which I never played).

I have a couple of years of the Maniac collected.

Oh god, the memories.

Nice, thanks! I'd like to pick up a copy but it's shot up in price.

I love that list, too - I've got a few of those but there's a bunch I want to look for that I didn't know about. Also I like that they listed Hi Score Girl; it's good to see that series get some love.

that does make sense, but personally I had another theory. That the UK has more of an acceptance of Tabloid style journalism than the US does and fact checking isn't as high of a priority over there and instead it's just accepted that journalism is going to get things wrong once in a while.

>> No.2313340 [DELETED]

yes you did, you tried to make it seem that I was saying US journalism was better than UK journalism, where I was not. I was only pointing out cultural differences that actually do exist. Tabloid style printed journalism is much more widely accepted in british culture than it is in America, it doesn't make one worse than the other.

>> No.2313372 [DELETED]

>>2313368

This would be the point at which you confirm your reading comprehension blows. My point is that _both_ countries have zero journalistic integrity, thus complete negating any ability to do a "us vs them" comparison.

Eh, he's not THAT cool.

The Die Hard stores were really cool, though; they'd have stuff on demo units and they'd take any of the loose games on the shelves and let you "play test" them. I wish they'd have managed to stick around longer.

That's a shame, I'd have paid for something like that (even though he's a dick and would probably waste it on crack).

I have fond memories of that magazine because there really wasn't anything like it at the time. Nowadays if you're a weeb there's tons of places on the internet to get your fix, but back then it was the equivalent of using the underwear section of a Target Ad as jerkoff material. EGM and Gamepro would show pictures every month about games from Japan and little blurbs; similarly, you'd have the ads in the back of EGM for Die Hard and Tronix and other companies that had little baby pictures of them as well. When Game Fan came out it was really exciting being able to see more of a focus on that sort of material. Nowadays there's really no point - and even then, around 1994 EGM picked up their game for a while and really improved their overseas coverage. But it's still kind of fun to go back and read those old GameFan issues, if anything to see how they'd hype up games as the next big thing and then trash them in their reviews in the same issue, and other shit like that.

Anyway sorry for rambling, I have to get back to the home before the orderlies notice.

We had a thread not too long ago about Gamefan, Casey Lowe, Versus Books and all that. It was pretty good. It was a damn quality magazine that didn't just feel like a product, it felt like an effort of love. Casey Lowe has a podcast about import gaming now, it's a little boring at times, but every now and then they get off on a tangent talking about working for Gamefan back in the day, and how young they all were and how big of a deal everything was, and how much work they put into their layouts. I only have a couple of issues (I bought one for the release of Earthworm Jim 2, and one for Sonic 3D Blast), and they're just awesome all around and I love flipping through them for a blast of nostalgia.

I recall getting in trouble for having one of them in school, due to the gross/sexual/violent nature of some of the adds. Good times.

Yeah, NG was their newsletter, you could get it at game centers. As for the book, according to the anon earlier it's material from different issues. AFAIK there was only the one volume.

Also the Gamefan guy's name is Monitaur (surprised I remember that...). I liked the comic where they spent the whole thing talking shit about EGM, particularly the plan to split the magazine into EGM and EGM2l
