Hey /vr/, I've been wanting to get into the Playstation for a while, I missed out on it.
What are some must-play games? I'm aware of
>Spyro
>Crash
>Metal Gear Solid
>Xenogears
>Final Fantasy
>Silent Hill
>Persona
What are some other must-plays?

Pac-Man World is pretty good. There's also Mega Man X4, X5, and I think X6.

Rayman and Rayman 2 are good as well. Crash Team Racing is also a really good game so try that out.

>Pac-Man
I enjoyed 2, I'll be sure to check that out
>Rayman 1 and 2
Played those, beat Rayman 2. I'll probably pick up Rayman for Playstation. I have it for DOS but I can't get it to have music no matter what I do
>MMX, CTR
I'll check those out as well, thanks. I should probably play the first couple of X games first.

World 1 isn't as good as World 2 but it's still a pretty good title. I love it a lot.

Vib-Ribbon and Parappa (and it's spinoff, Un Jammer Lammy) are also pretty good.

>> No.2295945

>Parappa
Heard great things about that.
>Vib-Ribbon
Never heard of it, but it looks interesting. I'll keep it in mind.
Thanks, anon.

>> No.2295946

>>2295945
No problem. Vib-Ribbon's a neat title, it's a weird rhythm game but once you get into it it's pretty neat. You can use your own music for it too so that's a plus.

It's EU/JP only though, so you'll have to import it if you're in NA.

Alright. The playstation is region-free, yes?

>> No.2295959

>>2295948
I believe so? It should be but I don't remember.

I think there's a way you can fool the system into getting past the region lock if there IS one. I kind of doubt it.

>> No.2295962

>>2295959
Are you joking? Of course the PS1 is region locked. You need to swap or have a mod chip.

I've never imported so I didn't really know. My b.

PS1 Persona games are garbage, if anything play them on PSP. Additionally Chrono Cross is a lot better than Final Fantasy on PS1 and doesn't rely as heavily on cutscenes you won't find impressive if you didn't see them 15 years ago.

also spyro > crash

>>2295927
no one likes X6

>>2295962
the "swap trick" will break the optical drive. either get a modchip or gameshark or bootdisc

>Persona

I like the first three games, but they're not must plays. I don't seem them as dated like others do, but for some reason I find that the game's battle system gets old. Breath of Fire IV, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, Grandia, Starr Ocean 2, and Legend of Mana are games I'd recommend over the first 3 Persona games.

Tekken 3
Team Buddies
Gran Turismo 2

how do i get a basic bin+cue out of all these .ape files ?

>> No.2296031

These are some of my favorites that I own and have played. I adore the system.
Fear Effect

Spider Man. The best game he will likely ever have :(

Parasite Eve: this game is one of the best you'll ever play.

Chrono Cross... just buy it now

Nightmare Creatures 2( kinda rare and pricey so hopefully you find it cheap)

Bushido Blade- one of the best fighting games ever

Tekken 3^

Ape Escape- very innovative monkey catching 3d action platformer

Dino Cisis and Dino Crisis 2 especially

Batman Forever Arcade(good luck, it's very rare, but awesome!)

Wild 9- fucking stellar action platform from te dev team that made Eearthworm Jim

Oddworld: Abe's Odysee and Abe's Exodus: phenomenal puzzle platformer.

Akuji: the Heartless. A little known gem from Crystal Dynamics. Very much like Soul Rever and uses the Gex engine

Tenchu 1 and 2

Um Jammer Lammy- the sequel to Parappa the Rapper, an expensive music game with awesome vibes and graphics. The sequel is better and dirt cheap. I payed 3 dollars for a mint copy shipped and I highly recommend. Once you beat it, you can play the different versions of each songs as parappa!

You Dont Know Jack! The original is my favorite and its on the PC too but this game is fun to play when you're drinking or blazin with buddies and the commentary is actually well done.

Kiss Pinball

Frogger 2: Swampy's revenge: a well made game with a lot of shit packed into it.

Tarzan- try not to be thrown off by they act that it's a Disney game, because it's an excellent and pretty challenging platformer that's a lot of fun and probably still next to nothing in price.

007 Racing is also pretty kickass.

If you're into JRPGs, the following haven't been mentioned yet, for some reason:
Suikoden and Suikoden II
Valkyrie Profile
SaGa Frontier and SaGa Frontier 2
Dragon Warrior VII
Alundra (more of a Zelda/Landstalker-esque action/adventure)
Arc The Lad I-III
Azure Dreams (a roguelike/dungeon crawler with monster training elements)

Also, there's a 3D fighter called Evil Zone that my friends and I had a lot of fun with back in high school.

So, psn is having a flash sale and I'm curious about Dino Crisis, Wild Arms, and Breath of Fire IV. From what I gather DC is like RE but with dinosaurs? I've never played a classic RE(just 4-6) so I don't know what to expect.

As for BoF and Wild Arms, I realize they're JRPGs but I wanna know more about them if you'd be so kind.

I have 2 PlayStations one was chipped when I bought it but they both have failing lasers I want to fix them but I don't know how.

Rayman is IMO the best 2D platformer ever or pretty close, but it is also potentially the most difficult. Even most NES-era games are a walk in the park compared to it. The visuals and soundtrack are amazing though, definitely worth playing on PS or Saturn (DOS version has sound/speed issues and Jaguar version sucks if you could even find it).

It's not momentum-based like Mario or Sonic. It's more about timing your movements right. Also, here's a really good review by Mike "The Guy Who Would be a Better AVGN" Matei: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6-_XxHDCi0
