Recommend me some god-tier fighting games guise. Preferably pre-ps2 and 2D (but stuff like Tekken or Kamen Rider is fine too!)

>> No.2288789

I'm not sure what you consider god tier, but I guess you could start playing Far East of Eden: Kabuki Klash.

>> No.2288792

>>2288783
The only really god tier ones are Capcom's and SNK's games. Personally I like KoF far better.

SF2 and SSF2 on SNES are decent, other than that stick to Saturn or Dreamcast ports. All the 2D fighting games that came out on PS1 had tons of frames cut and are choppy to the point of not being worth playing.

DoA is a much better game than it looks, but it's not amazing. Just solid.

Bushido Blade is a must play. A very different type of fighter, the kind where you can win in one solid blow. But it's a fantastic experience and a pretty great game. I wish it had more of a legacy.

Why not? Both are fighting games. I just find DoA much more balanced, while Street Fighter, KoF, or whatever are much more arcadey. They are fun but also can be really unbalanced.

>> No.2288848

>>2288845
Ohh god my sides. Dead or Alive is far less balanced than Street Fighter. But there is a distinct difference between 2D fighters and 3D fighters. And preferring one over the other is understandable.

>>2288858
What I mean by unbalanced in these games is how ridiculously OP some of the combos are for some fighters.
Especially when it comes to shit like abusing invisible corner walls and bouncing the shit out of the opponent.
Some characters are just way too fucking broken in these games.
DoA tends to try to be a bit more realistic and less flashy, thats also why there is less unbalancy.

>> No.2288874

>>2288858
He might mean in terms of player skill. DoA is simpler and you can get by with just decent timing and mashing and still do decently well against someone more experiences. Whereas in Street Fighter or KoF you really need to know your shit and there's little that an inexperienced player can do against someone more skilled.

It's grasping at straws a little, but I can't think of any other way someone would call Dead or Alive more balanced than Street Fighter.

DoA fighting style is developed after Virtua Fighter.
In Virtua Fighter you do not have characters who can spam fireballs and jump across the whole screen doing hurricane kicks.
DoA is much more realistic and also less broken. Street Fighter is only so successful cause people are dumb and like fast entertaimnent with flashy special moves. That's also exactly the reason why Bushido Blade was so fucking underrated. Not flashy enough, not broken and unrealistic enough.

3D fighting games are one of those rare genres that have actually gotten better with time. They're faster paced, have more characters and generally more actual depth now than they did then. And to be perfectly honest, I only replay anything pre-Tekken 3 out of nostalgia.

But if you want to fixate on obsolete old crap for the rest of your life, then go right ahead.
And no, I'm not some wide-eyes plucky tween who literally JUST started gaming.

I've been a gamer since 1988 and I've played just about every fighting game ever made. I will say that some genres age just fine, however TPS and 3D fighting games are not two of those genres. They age very shittily and older entries in the respective catalogues should honestly just be forgotten.

But that's me. Like I said, some folks actually DO let nostalgia rule their lives...

Shame that the series has turned to a shitty dudebro fighter recently. It's not even an arcade game anymore.

I don't know what OP finds good, so I'll list what I usually play instead.
Waku Waku 7, SF Alpha 2, Pocket Fighter, Real Bout 1/2/S, Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Shodown 1/2/4/5/6, Last Blade1/2, Power Instinct 2/Groove on Fight/Matrimelee, Variable Geo Max/Advanced 2, Martial Masters, Gundamwing Endless Duel, Far East of Eden Kabukiden, TMNT Tournament Fighter(SNES), Killer Instinct 2, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure(CPS2), Darkstalkers 2/3, Marvel Super Heroes, and X-Men Children of the Atom. I can pick up any of these and have a good time for half an hour, but if I had to pick one out of all of those, it will have to be Kabukiden Far East of Eden for its simplicity, great visuals, lightheartedness and pace.

>>2288816
The biggest newbie trap when it comes to arcade emulation is the fact that there are different versions of ROMs. You kinda do have to find all different kinds of the same game and figure out which one works.

>> No.2289814

My personal favorites (in no particular order):

Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
Street Fighter 4 (the newest version is Ultra Street Fighter 4, but I don't know if that's the one that they're playing in the tournament scene or not)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Capcom vs. SNK 2
SNK vs. Capcom - Match of the Millennium
King of Fighters '98
King of Fighters XI
Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
Garou - Mark of the Wolves
Samurai Shodown
Samurai Shodown II
Last Blade
Last Blade 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu
Joy Mech Fight
Shin Kidou Senki Gundam W - Endless Duel
Power Instinct 2 (there's also an upgraded version called Gogetsuji Legends)
Groove On Fight
Power Instinct Matrimelee
Shin Goketsuji Ichizoku - Bonno Kaiho
Goketsuji Ichizoku Matsuri Senzo Kuyou

If you REALLY like Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 then it's also worth playing Real Bout Fatal Fury Special. The other Samurai Shodown games are different from the first two, but it might be worth playing them anyway especially if you're into the characters. And if you REALLY get into SNK vs. Capcom on the Neo Geo Pocket Color then it might be worth playing the other fighters on that system as well.

Custom combos. You get a full super bar to start and a lot of characters have infinites. So it's less about strats and more about landing that first custom or getting a guard break with custom. And to add to that, with the Alex Valle CC's, no one could build up that resource fast enough. You'd eat a CC combo and have to spend that meter to deal damage to even the odds of winning the round before you could load up for touch of death combos.

In Alpha 3, touch of death was available at the start. I know this only matters for the upper 30% of players who play either games, but it still trickles down to the rest of the players.
