I've always been more of a JRPG fan, but here lately I've been getting into high fantasy. Y'know, orcs, goblins, dragons. D&D shit basically.

What are some recommended High Fantasy retro games, /vr/?
Any genre of game, just so long as it fits the fantasy theme.

>> No.2285187

I thought Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder were pretty good.

Sorry for not having more recommendations. I don't play many D&D games either myself.

I heard Ultima was good so I'm thinking of playing those next

Ultima isn't that high fantasy, after the first three games there's only humans left in the world.

Wizardry was literally intended to be an unofficial D&D game when it was first thought up. Those games are AWESOME if you can handle INSANELY HARD dungeon crawlers with VERY old fashioned and outdated WRPG gameplay.

Then there's Dungeons & Dragons - Tower of Doom and its sequel Dungeons & Dragons - Shadow Over Mystara, both in the arcades. Two of the best and most replayable beat 'em ups of all time, the second one especially.

There's also the arcade games Knights of the Round, King of Dragons, Magic Sword, Black Tiger, Gaiapolis, and Dungeon Magic (aka Light Bringer.

Ultima is DEFINITELY high fantasy.

OP, play Ultima 7 and Ultima Underworld.

Baldur's Gate and especially Baldur's Gate II have exactly what you're looking for.

>> No.2285232

Shadow Over Mystara, Tower of Doom, King of the Dragons, Knights of The Round Table for Beat em Ups.
Cadash is a nice arcade hybrid, quite unique in its way.
Quest for Glory is a fantasy point and click with rpg elements.
The obvious Ultima series for pc, Daggerfall, Betrayal at Krondor, Eye of Beholder... Plenty of them.
The obsious Warcraft series for rts, Fantasy General is also a neat strategy,
Almost all of the SSI rpgs, from Baldur's Gate to everything else.

Master of Magic is pretty much the greatest high fantasy game of all time.

Basically any TSR game. They had a bunch of DnD games back in the 90s. My favorite was Dark Sun: Shattered Lands.

No, no, a thousand times no. The enhanced edition is utter garbage - you're paying $20 for an update to widescreen (which has terrible graphical glitches) and a new arena mode.

Get BG1 & 2 (for about the same price as one copy of the enhanced edition) from GOG if you want to pick up a 'modern' copy. Then follow the instructions on their forums for modding the game to restore cut content, adapt to modern widescreen resolution, add classes, run it in the BG2 engine, and remove level caps.

Look on GOG and poke around for enhance the gameplay in your edition of baldur's gate

The widescreen patch works wonderfully, but ok.
