Does anyone here know if ArcadeWorks has started shipping these?

>> No.2284390

>>2284362
google says yes.

>> No.2284394

>>2284390
Huh. Guess I'm an idiot

>> No.2284827

>>2284394
no, >>2284390 is the idiot. production for the first run has not completed yet. they are not shipping yet and the backers haven't gotten theirs either.

Most recent update earlier in March:
>Lastly, surveys are finally going out. We promised that surveys would
>go out when mass production kicks in and we are here to make good on
>that. Anticipated delivery is still March 2015 but towards the end of
>the month. As soon as we get addresses from the backers, we'll be
>printing out mailing labels and preparing the packaging materials for
>when the initial batches arrive at our door. Everything is still on
>schedule and we'll be shipping out as fast as humanly possible when the
>winds of change come BLWing down. In the mean time, keep calm and don't
>press down.

Mine hasn't shipped yet. They said they're on schedule, though, so it should be soon.

Disable 10NES chip?

>> No.2286436

>>2286349
This thing, if I'm right, is an entirely new mechanism that loads the game. It's no longer spring loaded, and you just slide the game in and it locks in.

>> No.2286445

>>2286436
Right, that's the whole point of this. The cause of the blinking light was two-fold. It was the lockout chip AND the stupid ZIF connector design.

This eliminates the ZIF connector, replacing with simple card edge slots. Games slides in, you pull out. Done. No bending connector pins so it's much more reliable.

Part of the reason why the lockout chip was so problematic was wear to the pins (flexing) would cause the connection to be flaky to the lockout chip, which is what would cause the blinking light.

In theory, disabling the lockout with this mod would be redundant, but having both is a surefire way to guarantee the best operation of a NES.

Says you. /vr/ just isn't the same without 3 simultaneous retron shill threads.

I always wondered where those went.

>> No.2287220

There's a board connecting the two card-edge connectors. There will be a 10NES chip on that board to ensure reliability. It was a stretch goal IIRC

>It was the lockout chip

and again another moron pushes the whole 'disable the lockout chip' meme

it flashes because the NES can't read the game. either bad contacts on the game pcb or the zif connector.

the lockout chip jumps in and says 'oh shit, gotta get this working' as it resets in attempt to load the game.
often times the game just wasn't seated right when power was turned on and the flashing resolves the issue and loads the game.

if you disable the chip and your game doesn't load than you just are stuck there with a blank/grey screen... what do you do then? you get up and reset.

jesus fucking christ i'm kinda mad

>> No.2287240

You guys have problems with this? I've never had a problem with my current NES regarding this.

All I do is make sure the contacts on the cartridge are clean, and that that cart is correctly inserted into the NES.

If I get a blinking screen, a single reset fixes it.

Mine usually only needs a gentle nudge.
What is the problem?

>> No.2287625

>>2287621
People that never clean their shit or clean it horrible wrong blow the whole NES failing to read thing way overboard.

Not to mention with this replacement you don't push down anymore which would fuck with me.

Pins get bent over time, its not a huge problem for me, but a few I repaired were so bad that I had to order new ones, which are usually too tight, and damage the contacts on the game. There's also been a few new pin sets I bought that just flat out didn't work, which is obviously a huge pain in the ass.

I'd hold out on this thing though, I know there's going to be something wrong with at least the first batch, and it'll probably be that they're too tight. I expect lots of complaints about these breaking cart shells and tearing contacts off boards.
