This shit confuses the fuck out of me. It was released in Japan as Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Seiken Densetsu later became the Mana series. In America, it was FF: Adventure, a stand alone game not apparently connected to any other games. In Europe, it's called Mystic Quest, which is the name of a totally different FF game in the US. That game, in turn, is known as Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest in Japan and Mystic Quest Legend in Europe. This isn't even touching on the whole FF1-2-3-7 release order in the US or the Saga series becoming FF Legend. What the fuck happened to consistency?

I cried ;_;

Though, come to think of it, the companions have... Issues.

Julius turns out to be, well, Julius.
Watts demands money for his services.
Bogard is old and useless.
Chocobo runs off with a chick.
Amanda gets herself killed.
Lester is even more useless than Bogard, which takes some fucking effort.
And the girl would rather grow roots than put out. Not that this helps her - she can't run, and there's always a knothole. The bark chafes, though.

Marcie's really the only one who is actually worth your time. And she can't fucking jump.

The Japanese and American titles both try to attract people with the Final Fantasy name while the European name was new because none of the Final Fantasy games on NES or SNES were released there.

Mystic Quest(SNES) did get released in Europe so they tried to connect it to FFA since it used the same name. The addition of "USA" in the JP title is just like Super Mario USA(SMB2U) to show that it was originally made for the American market.

Most people in Europe just name them by their American names, just like Americans name FFII/FFIII on SNES FFIV and FFVI. Surprisingly Nintendo still tends to do pointless regional name fuckery like this on the Wii and Wii U, especially with Kirby(Kirby's Return to Dreamland/Kirby's Adventure Wii and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse/Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush)

Final Fantasy Adventure was one of the first games that I ever owned.
It was also one of the first games that I ever beat.
It was also the first game that I ever beat that had a melancholic ending.
This shit was pretty heavy. Very depressing for a 10 year old me.

Spending all of that time playing through a game and getting a downer ending. It was a hard pill to swallow.

Ultimately I appreciated the ending. The sacrifice that the two main characters made was more meaningful than a tacked on happy ending would be.

Still, I wanted to play something light and cheerful after beating FFA.

The next GB game I bought and beat was Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening!

Has anyone played the GBA remake of FFA, “Sword of Mana”?

Is it worth playing through?
Is it a remake or more of reboot or a sequel or what?

From this website...

http://www.fantasyanime.com/mana/ffadventabout.htm

>Sword of Mana is a Game Boy Advance action/RPG by Square Enix, released in December of 2003. It's a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure. They didn't just improve the game, they totally remade it from scratch! Its battle system and graphics are reminisce of Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana. It retains the general storyline and characters from Final Final Adventure, some new characters are added. The overworld and all the dungeons have been redesigned to something completely different. It carries all the original songs from Final Fantasy Adventure, but of course, they are all remade and improved. To the left is the front box art.

Poor fella. The first GB game I ever beat was Link's Awakening, which was a bit heart-wrenching, but I don't think it was anywhere near of a downer as FFA's.

The original idea was a good one, but in the end they went way too far with the remake. It's all but a completely different game in there.

I only tried this because I was told it was FFA remade.

It somehow felt... empty?

So I laughed.

But, at least LA is lighthearted for circa half the game. MQ starts with you being a prisoner and then almost murdered. Then the girls' companion is actually murdered. Then the girl is abducted by a vampire. Then the girl is abducted by an evil wizard. Then Amanda is killed. Then you find out that Bogard is now paralysed below the waist. And then your girlfriend turns into a tree.

... In hindsight, we should've seen the downer ending coming.

Ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this feeling. It's not a bad game but it felt really dull, while the original FFA was quite charming.
