I have no experience with these. Where should I start? I am using snes9x

I'd actually rather not have that effect. I'd prefer flat. I download CRT-geom but I don't know how to use it on snes9x

Eliminating the curvature and barrel effect, you get a richer picture, and pretty similar to how should look >>2271296

emulating the curvature is fucking stupid since its still on a flat screen. Something like OP's pic may look comparable to the real pics from CRT generals, but only because photos are inherently flat representations of an actual 3D thing. Using a curvature filter is akin to watching a youtube video of someone who filmed the game from a CRT.

>>2273728
Barrel distortion pretty accurately simulates the effect of the actual curvature of a CRT screen.

Go find an old CRT and play a game on it right now. I guarantee you that the curvature will be one of the first things that will jump out at you after years of using nothing but flat screens.

JUST LIKE A REAL CRT

Instant replicable makeshift crt filter:

First of all be aware of the fact that if you did not glue your eyes to the screen you could not really see crystal sharp scanlines, most "CRT" filters do that wrong. Really all a CRT did was stretching the picture and add some natural blur.
That bluging effect also did not really occur unless you had a very old TV and were sitting less than half a meter away from it.

I assume you mean blurring.
Yeah, this, I live in the 3rd world and still have an old crt in my bedroom and it looks nothing like the shit you guys post in these thread.

Why not just add simple scanlines and be done with it?

That looks terrible

I still play games (retro and modern) on tube tvs because I'm too poor for a big HD tv. I have a 46 inch Magnetbox and it has a great picture and nes , snes , ps1 all look good.

Point is, I play emulators but know nothing about filters. I do have an HD monitor and it doesn't bother me one bit the way it looks.

I am looking into a Flash cart for nes and snes so i can use the TV and original controllers but know nothing about them.

Heard Stoneage gamers was good but expensive, anyone know of a cheaper but still functional brand I'd appreciate it.

Tl:dr I need a good but cheap flash cart for nintendo and super nintendo.

is that a "the window across the room is shining on your TV and making it impossible to see" filter? That's what it looks like.

I'm still waiting for the "the TV was stored in the basement for a couple years and without the regular degaussing that occurs when it turns on and off it acquired permanent discoloration due to the magnetic bleed of its built-in speakers" filter.

Like my TV has.

Pick one, then another, then another and continue, until you find the one you like the most.

Or are you one of those hipster faggots who needs others to tell him what he likes or dislikes?

Christ, just look up CRT Royale, people. Set it to run at a resolution over 2400 or so and it will produce a near-perfect CRT effect. It's surprising to see /vr/ being so far behind on technology for simulating being extremely behind on technology.

>> No.2278757

>>2278635
You basically do need at least 5x the native resolution for it to work well. The higher the better - 4k+ is closer to perfect and more universal, for later games or dosbox-emulated games.
