Two questions:

Where can I find an audio file containing "Owanarai Ai"?

Is there a Breath of Fire I re-translation?

Also, yes, I checked google. I found many nico nico clips and dead downloads.

As for the retranslation, I cannot find a link.

You can download Owaranai Ai from this archived page:

As far as I know there is retranslation available for Breath of Fire, but it's not like you're missing out on a lot. Except for name changes the story is mostly the same, it's really barebones and a bit dull in Japanese too.

You sir are a gentleman and a scout.

So it's definitely just name changes and nothing like BOF2's horrible translation?

No problem, I found the link because I remembered that's where I got the song when I looked for it way back when.

Regarding the translation yeah, it was made by Woolsey so if anything it's a bit livelier than your average RPG translation from the early 90's. It still feels kinda dry because the source material is pretty dry too, but it's nowhere near the levels of weirdness that was BOF2's translation. Just replace "Tyr" for "Myria" (and "Zack" for "Ryu" if you're playing the GBA version) when reading the text and you're good to go.

Also I guess you figured out that I meant to say "as far as I know there is *no* retranslation available" etc on my previous post.

Weren't the GBA versions retranslations?

No, they weren't. They added item exchange options between using the game link cable and anime stills/cutscenes during certain events. Breath of Fire I also had a revamped (and imo far better) interface, more similar to Breath of Fire II's. Far less significantly, it added a default name for Ryu (puzzingly, he's called "Zack").

If I recall correctly Breath of Fire II did change some very minor text, namely a certain point where you have to choose between "yes" or "no" but the translation makes "yes" mean "no" and viceversa. The awkward grammar, truncated item names and censored references are left intact, it was a really wasted opportunity on Capcom's part to not improve on it at all.

I recall an attempt to do a 'BoF1 Retranslation' similar to BoF2's but I believe the project has been stalled for some time. It was starting to look pretty good, but required some real effort to get the menus and other stuff working right. In the end I guess it was either too much, or placed on the backburner.

Forgot to mention that it was a hack for the Super Famicom version.

So...
How different is the bof2 retranslation?
I want to replay the game and can't decide between retranslation or breath of fresh fire 2.

I remember hearing about this too. Something about using the GBA version instead of original SNES for whatever reason too.

Speaking of GBA, there is at least a minor text mod that names things as they should be and clears up some confusion about items.

>>2272289
It takes the shit translation and makes it better along with some extras/fixes like a B Button dash, however the translation does do some replacements not everyone is happy about. Expect some jokes, like there's a Harry Potter reference used instead of Japanese folklore.

It's a lot less dry and any translation is an improvement, but some argue that he went too far.

I've been playing bof1 recently for the first time. It seems pretty average over all, but my biggest gripe about it is that the item descriptions suck. There are a handful of accessories that seem. to do nothing. And no one on the internet seems to know what they do either.
