swat 3 is /vr/ tactical fps that IMO was always better than rainbow six.

Even if everyone agreed SWAT 3 was better, OP's claim stands.

Fuck I love SWAT 3.

I think Rainbow Six had the cooler missions, settings, graphics, etc., and I liked the tacticool operator feeling. I even like the stealth missions that everyone else apparently hates. And of course the ability to plan before the mission was cool.

But, SWAT was a better game when it came to the actual enemy AI and room clearing. R6 is just too focused on elbow-hunting terrorists around corners and learning their positions so you don't get headshotted from across the map by some dude with a Skorpion. SWAT teammates are also much better at clearing rooms effectively than your guys in R6, probably because the tangos don't have lightning-fast headshot reflexes.

I should also add, I think Rainbow Six encourages the use of the minimap and heartbeat sensor too much, whereas in SWAT you usually rely on the more realistic tactic of flashing or gassing rooms you're not sure if they are safe to enter.

Too bad we can't get a game that combines the best traits of both.

Is SWAT 3 better than SWAT 4?

I've never played SWAT 4. I got SWAT 3 for free because it was a pre-order bundle with SWAT 4, but I guess a bunch went unclaimed. A DJ got them for free, and gave it out as "prizes" for helping him clean up at the end of his show, since he was responsible for that too (it was a firehall teen dance).

Weirdest way to get an awesome game.

Swat 3 allows bots in coop and multiplayer

Other than that 4 is better

SWAT 4 has better graphics and a significantly improved interface, and it's very atmospheric and moody, but I think SWAT 3 beats it in the raw mechanics. Your teammates feel more competent and there is a little more attention to detail in things like them securing hostages, calling in trailers, and checking corners as they breach. Later missions of SWAT 3 are also more similar to Rainbow Six, so it's a little more counter-terrorism and action-oriented than 4.

Also, SWAT 4 has a stupid point system that is ruthless about rules of engagement to the point of absurdity, where you basically have to wait to get shot before you can take down bad guys without losing points.

They're both very good games. If you can handle old graphics, SWAT 3 is very much worth playing.

God so much nostalgia, first online fps I ever played...classic, still remember someone's user name being "colonel carpet muncher" thought it was the funniest thing ever because I had no idea what it meant, figured it out when I asked my dad about it and he told me not to play anymore I still did

Pandora Trigger
Arctic Flare
Sand Hammer
Lost Thunder

.. and then my memory fades.

A few months ago I went to the Met in NYC. I had never been there before, but the entire time I was comparing to the Rogue Spear map in my head. I was blown away when I got to that iconic Egyptian room.

rip MSN Gaming Zone.

Remember finishing the first R6. The last level had 6 guys in one room all facing the door you enter from.
