I agree, and I was waiting for somebody to respond with it. The JP one is great, but isn't very representative of the game beyond "mechanical girl" and could serve as inspiration for "Tetsuo: The Iron Mistress" if there ever was such a spin-off. EU cover captures the tone of the game perfectly.

Finally got an okay scan of this from Suruga-ya. Game's the last from Artec, co-founded by a light novel writer/game designer who once worked with Kazuro Morita at Enix. Man, we NEED more boxart like these today. With all the promotion, gameplay, and screenshots we can see of games before they can come out it shouldn't matter if a cover's illustrated and might be seen as misleading. Album collectors get to have great pictures and paintings for their vinyl covers, we deserve the same. Especially when it has the potential to launch the career of an artist.

Hand-drawn illustrations for vg boxart is a pretty rare sight nowadays. The advent of highly detailed CGI kinda made using illustrations for packaging a moot point. Why commission an illustrator to do your boxart when you can just whip up a promotional render that looks like it came straight from the game? Even KojiPro has only used Shinkawa art for the limited edition releases of the last few Metal Gears.

The whole flyer is a pastiche of the Return of the Jedi poster, they simply turned Harrison Ford from Han Solo to Indiana Jones. Only the heroine's pose is different. Funnily enough, the Japanese flyer is more accurate to the US version of the game than the Japanese one.

He's an artist who collaborated with various musicians and labels in Japan, mostly during the 80s "indies boom".
His most famous work is probably with the band Guernica, along with Jun Togawa and Koji Ueno, where he wrote all lyrics and was also the mastermind behind the concept and of course all the art design including the album covers.

He also designed the famous Nagomu Records logo, which was one of the most important independent music labels in Japan during the 80s.

My moonspeak is very limited, but from what I've been able to figure out by playing it's about a grad student nonchalantly traveling back through time to travel the silk road with Marco Polo so he can sell cheap shit in "Zipangu" and become rich. Someone spoiled the ending for me (which I won't for y'all) but it has a really dark and bizarre ending.

Another one by Natsume that's really weird (and the same interface) is Idol Hakkenden - it has a really good soundtrack too.
