The earliest I remember is very blurry but the description and date fits perfectly with this:

In my memory the graphics were monochrome but I remember that sun and the gameplay explanation is pretty much what I remember, the date and the OS fits. I may have been three years old.

A bit later I remember our floppy disc collections with cga games like ace of aces, f1 (cant remember the name but it was made by accolade and i rreemember the music) and some more high end stuff like stunts.

>> No.2257664

popular after internet review critics got a hold of it.

although it's a really good game. so are the first two gargoyles quest's. sort of, the nes and gb version are balls hard but sport basically the same gameplay you get from demons crest.

>> No.2257668

i dont think it was possible to play gorillas on monochrome, you could however play nibbles on monochrome.

this is coming from a cga tandy 1000 though.

probably the best part about those two games were taking them apart, though. when I was maybe 10 years old i had rewritten nibbles to have a third player, it was good times. although try getting three people on one keyboard. ghosting, ye gods.

>> No.2257692

I know right? there used to be/still is a site with a repository of qbasic games. some of them were pretty advanced; sporting true 3d graphics and whatnot.

problems occur though, getting qbasic to run on anything that isnt dropbox simply doesnt seem to work, even qb64 seems buggy across all boards.

>> No.2257695

I don't know, my memory is either fuzzy or the game was being displayed on a monochrome monitor.

It really surprised me to find info (and rather quick I may add) on a game that was just an example game for qbasic. I literally searched "banana throwing retro videogame" and it was first.

Btw I just thought it is like a precursor of Worms, but is it the precursor or there were already more games in that style?(projectile, turn based, destructible environment)

>> No.2257698

I usually tell people Alex Kidd in Miracle World was my first game because it was... It was the first game I was given.

However, I remember playing an Atari 7800 and the game I think it was called Defender but the purpose of the game was that you were a tank in a maze and you had to shoot all these targets sitting at the top of the screen but there would be other tanks trying to chase you.

My memory is completely hazy on this so I don't know if the game is actually called Defender. Haven't been able to find it.

The perfect first game. Sometimes it's a beat-em-up, sometimes it's a puzzler, sometimes it's a tricky platformer, sometimes it's a racer. This was my first ever game. To this day I still have it on my shelves. I enjoyed it a lot, surprisingly, probably because I didn't know any better; at least at that time the controls didn't feel clunky. Hard to play it nowadays - I still have a few instinctive reflexes, but not nearly enough to try and beat it again.

I had access to a few computers before that (C128, MO5), but always in school and always with serious utilities. As a kid I didn't understand why these machines were introduced to us as being super duper important, since we only did some basic math on it. Well, we were fine with single digit additions on a piece of paper too, so, meh.
