Not to be confused with the similarly titled Power Rangers racing game, this 2-screen kart racer was released only in Japan and features an array of various SD /m/echa characters such as the Gundam F-91 and Kamen Rider ZO among others.

that's kind of my point. RBR has no night stages, no fog stages, no mixed surfaces, no punctures, no atmosphere at all, the stages are short and bland, no progressive damage, and so on, and so forth - all it's got is the driving model (and you can't call it "physics" because those are often wonky as well). it's not really rallying, it's just driving a 300bhp car on gravel. and it doesn't feel realistic, as much as just [initially] difficult.

rally 2000 is a much more complete experience, but there's hardly anyone that cares about all the details and instead everyone wants to just slide around on gravel.

The appeal of this shit's all in the vehicles. The course design is bland, the handling is too simple to contain depth, and the items fail to do anything interesting. The game kinda dies as soon as the novelty of flying a plane in a kart racer format fades (which might be a decent amount of time if you've got people over, don't get me wrong). I'd contend that it's slightly behind MK64 in lasting fun value though and far behind Crash Team Racing, the Mariokart copycat that improved absolutely everything about it.

also the single player mode is repetitive as fuck

I remember there was some PSX rally game that rocked my socks off, and for some reason I really enjoyed the bumpy tracks and slidey physics, it felt more involved than nascar sims. It had loads of content, shit like vehicle and suspension tweaking I think, and a course editor.

I was shit at it because I was pretty young of course, but I can definitely appreciate the appeal of rally games. Getting to toy around with swingy momentum always makes games better. Shit that was the big gameplay sell with Sonic.

Biker Mice From Mars on SNES is very underrated.

Everyone's all over Rock'n'Roll racing but as far as isometric racing is concerned, that's nothing compared to BMFM.

The boost systems, using Vinnie and Modo, are just amazingly fun.
The only issue with the game are the balanc issues between characters. Vinnie and Modo are OP as fuck. But give the game a try, if you can.

>course design is bland

what a stupid complaint, I loved the theming, the variety of ways and all the nooks and crannies to explore. what other racing game has you pulling up a draw bridge to fuck other people up? or going down the well, or cruising between wind mills

>handling is too simple

the hover craft and plane adds plenty of variety and different ways to play, also sliding and hitting boost correctly. going up against wiz pig is far more difficult than anything in ctr or mk

ctr has solid mechanics but the tracks are awful shite, items are mario kart+lack of inspiration and the bosses are far more underwhelming than dkr's ones. it's just a middle of the road deal made by people who never had their heart in it
