Is it just me, or were Dreamcast's best games fairly unique?

>Jet Set Radio
>Space Channel 5
>Shenmue
>ChuChu Rocket!
>Cannon Spike
>House of the Dead 2
>Cosmic Smash
>Power Stone
>Rez

I want to play SEGAGA SO BAD.

What do you mean by "unique"? In comparison to what? Other consoles during that era also had a lot of experimental, obscure games.

If they're so unique then why is every good Dreamcast game available on other systems now?

house of the dead 2? it's a good rail shooter/lightgun but what's unique about it?

>What do you mean by "unique"?
I can't think of another rollerblade based skating game
I can't think of another game like Rez
I can't think of another puzzle game like ChuChu Rocket!
The only zombie on rail shooter I know is HotD
I've never heard of a game similar to aliens coming to your space station, forcing everyone to dance with ray guns, and having a news reporter save them all by dancing.
etcetc

I tried to play L.O.L. but just couldn't get into it after like an hour. I found the first thing but after that I just ran around pissing on things aimlessly...
Does the game get good?

The games themselves are unique, they're not unique to the Dreamcast...

It just had zombies. Honestly, it's not that unique.
I would've put Confidential Mission because of its difficult minigames, wanting you to shoot people in the hand, and 1 hit KO but 3 hits for best score, but no one ever wants to talk about Confidential Mission.

That's because somehow pop culture said it was gay to rollerblade.

Seriously, anytime I ever went rollerblading I would get called a faggot or "fruitboarder"
Because it's only considered cool to play with skateboards.

>> No.2242285

>>2241083
That's fine and all but it's irrelevant to games.
I don't think anyone was like "Wow, being a paper boy is so cool! I wish I was old enough to have my own paper route and be a popular kid!" but Paperboy was still a game and it got a sequel.
It's all about how the game is presented.

Also, in my city NY, USA everyone roller bladed/skated sometimes. There were roller rinks around with arcades, skate shops, and laser tag all in one. People always used to go for school events, birthday parties, etc and it was a great time. Then in college there was a guy who roller bladed to class all the time. I don't know anyone that went "Wow, what a fag" but he was known as rollerblade guy.

SEGA liked to take risks with the dreamcast. How else would we have such an arthouse and small crowd appealing game like shenmue get pumped with 2.5 billion rupees? And still have the first shenmue 1 feel rushed compared to the second one?

I love the dreamcast but they could have done a handful of things much better..

Also, Illbleed

Yup. Never got passed the first stage boss due to tank controls No matter how many times I tried. Very neat game tho. Wish I never would have sold it(along with a handful of other DC games I had). Illbleed is probably worth some coin now.

Illbleed is actually a rip-off of The Devil Inside.

Only difference is that nobody remembers The Devil Inside because it's a PC exclusive, and that "retro gamers", especially the kind of one that make popular videos on youtube about "underrated games", are mostly console gamers.

But Shenmue is Dreamcast's THE title. Everyone who can name a Dreamcast game can name Shenmue. I never knew anyone who had a Dreamcast but we all knew it even before it came out and were jealous as fuck for not getting to play it.

>> No.2243893

...Maybe? The Saturn performed better than all other consoles they marketed in Japan, so they must have figured letting devs rip would produce results like that. Not what happened, of course (we can thank OG Kamen Rider for selling the Saturn there).

Thing that baffles me about Shenmue is it could never make a profit, the development started dropping into the negative during the switch from saturn to DC, they just stuck by Yu Suzuki because they supported his vision, even if it saw them hemorrhage money.

Fun fact, Sega were (financially) in the red since the Sega CD,

Son, not even the 1/5 of Dreamcast's
extremely high quality to quantity ratio library is available on other systems. The lack of shovelware is truly amazing. Hell, even its lesser games usually have something about them that makes them worth playing.
