Sonic Clone is shorthand for "colorful, non-licensed 2D platformers staring anthropomorphic characters from 1990-1995". It was indeed Sonic that made this subgenre blow up.

Sonic clones are the ones that are designed as (now dated) "animal with 'tude". Thats why characters like socket and bubsy get called sonic clones.

Decapattack is a good game. Not great by any means, since it is just your bog standard early 90s 2d platformer, but it does what it does very well. It's only weak point is that it really has no strong points, other than the kid horror art style.

However, it is not a Sonic clone.
