Who has the rights for this IP? That might have to do with it.

Mischief Makers also deserves a sequel, but the copyrights for it must be kind of nightmareish, with Square now being involved since the merge with Enix.

They actually did some.

I only played Sin and Punishment Star Successor and Bangai-O spirits.

Bangai-O spirits was pretty good, but not as good as the original, it was far more puzzle-oriented than shooting niggas-oriented. I didn't finish it though.
S&P SS was 10/10 GOTY 2010 for me.

I want to try out Gunstar Super heroes, but I'm afraid I'll end up disappointed since I've read people saying it's not as good as the original. Probably it's still good though.
There's also Advance Guardian Heroes, but also haven't played it myself yet.

Gunstar Super and Advanced Guardian are both pretty good. It's true, tjey aren't as good as the originals, but how could they be? They're still very fun
