Probably pumped more hours into this game than anything and still haven't beaten it. Was too young to really understand it at the time but that didn't stop me from playing the shit out of it and failing miserably. Means a lot to me just because I played it at a good time in my life and it just reminds me of that.
Bought it along with the box and manual from a yardsale for like 5 bucks. Not my rarest game but probably my most treasured.

I got this when I was 10 and it took me close to 3 years to beat it. I remember almost giving up, learning the controls was so hard, spent one week in the first dungeon (yep the very first one where you rescue zelda and exit by the sanctuary).

Any of the endings were great to encounter. It was really bone-chilling with the black-and-white bad end screen or when you forgot to keep your promise with Joey.

I'd have to say Resident Evil 2 means the most to me, because it was the first game I ever beat, the first game I ever 100%ed (before that was really a thing), the first game that I was totally enamored with and it's also arguably the best entry in my favorite genre AND series (speaking in strict retro terms anyway. REmake was a better game, but it's "too new" for this place...)

All my friends got RE2 when it first came out. We all played it to death. It's basically all we talked about for months. It's going to be "that game" for me forever, and nothing can change that.

And the best thing of all is that I still genuinely enjoy playing it and all of my favoritism isn't just nostalgia (witch is there, to be sure). I even keep making new discoveries when I replay the game. And challenge runs keep things new(ish) and interesting, even now.

If I had to guess, I'd say that I have beaten RE2 more times than every other game I've ever played combined. I've spent the most hours playing RE2 than doing any other activity and it very likely took up at least 1/3 of the time of my teen years by volume.

I know it has flaws, I know there's an "anti RE2" movement on the rise, I don't care. I like it. If you don't, fuck off. And that's that.

Excellent choice

The game does a fantastic job of making you feel as if you are part of something big; which most RPGs do. But it also is almost perfect at nailing the smaller, personal relationships that can take a game that is fun and turn it into something special. For a game with 108 characters, it's astounding how real and memorable so many of them are.

Earthbound

First RPG and it made me fall in love with the genre. I still try to beat it at least once a year.

If I knew how much it would end up going for, I would have bought it when I was still a kid instead of just renting it again and again and again.

Shin Megami Tensei (1). After absolutely falling in love with the series after Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga, I thought I'd go back to the first of the series (though not the franchise), and it too is everything I love about gaming.

Despite the spritey graphics, it still holds up pretty well.

Still hoping for an updated remake beyond the chintzy iOS port.

Secret of Evermore.

The atmosphere, the music, the sense of adventure all alone in a strange world with your dog as your only friend. Beyond the gameplay (which some people think is tedious, but I love) the game's story always seemed to suggest there was something more going on, but it never tells you what.

But speaking of music, listen to this:

Donkey Kong 64.

It was a game that was a big part of my childhood.

Due to how large the game felt to me as a kid, my brother and I spent months trying to beat it.

We got stuck right before getting the last key to fight K. Rool. 16 year later my brother is now dead and I finally got around to replay it and got to K. Rool.

I'm going to try and beat it as sort of a tribute to him.

Well, are you going to tell us why is it Illusion of Gaia yours? Great taste by the way.

To me is Chrono Trigger, since I feel that it's the most ''adventure'' JRPG game that I've ever played, not just that, but the characters, being very generic, have a lovable charisma, each one of them, and the places you can go, the friendly plot, the enemies, the bosses, and the time traveling, the fucking music. I'm just in love with this game man.

I'll never forget the first time I got to know Zeal's Kingdom, it was magical, the music, the ambience, the land floating in the sky, the river, the castle up there, the plane, it felt mystic.

Chrono Trigger is my favorite game ever, and Corridors of Time, my favorite game song too.

Dude thank you for your kind words

I love illusion of Gaia because it made me fascinated about the real world sites and traveling, not many games had feel life locals

Angkor wat, nazca, etc

You really felt you were on a journey and benefiting the world like rescuing slaves or restoring relics to different cultures

Also it's challenging enough and the game evolves in diversity and variety that it holds your attention

I love the sprite based artwork even today it looks good

I still get excited when I play and fall in love with the game again

Posted it before, but still true.

I love the entire period of my life when red and blue came out. How everyone played it, not just a few...EVERYONE at school knew and played Pokemon.

I remember how I left my Gameboy over by my science experiment as I went to do something else, came back and stopped someone from stealing my Articuno.

I remember the boy down the street having a temper tantrum because his 7 year old sister got the holofolo charizard and he didn't.

My memories of my mother being in the hospital coincide with my catching mewtwo. I remember being at summer camp, catching rapidash, and being in the car with grandma when I finally beat the elite four.

To say Pokemon didn't play a role in my life as a youngster would be a lie, and that is why I still love it to this day.

There were others of course. SNES games as a whole also holds special memories to me. But Pokemon red is probably one series I hold alot of importance to.

It's also the first game I'm gonna play with my gf. She's NOT into them at all "except pokémon and the sims, lol" but I managed to get her to play a bit of Smash Bros with my roomies and she liked it, so the next step is a fun and comfy adventure she may or may not like. Wish me luck!

I remember seeing it for the first time at a Target in one of those display cases where you could play the game and was blown away.
