There's something about the Game Boy sound chip that really tickles me. Post your best tunes from GB games.

MUH FUKKEN NIGGA!

Used to run the battery down just listening to that.

Try out the remake for DS if you haven't. It's got an essentially complete fan translation (except for combo attack names that you don't need to know, only need to know how to do them). It's quite different gameplay wise but still great, and the music remixes are wonderful.

It does actually use the GBA soundfont, but the composer's instrumentation is one of the most notorious bad mixups with the shitty dac supplied with the gameboy advance.

Reading up on

Oh! There's sequels and everything now. It's gotten quite popular since the DSi sequel caught on.

Getting a GBC cartridge is so expensive it's out of the question though, but there's always ROMs and flashcarts (also 3DS VC).

In fact I'm jelly of you getting to play that in your childhood. It wasn't even released in my region of the world, and I first got to know the series from the DSi game, which I tried out out of boredom back when the 3DS had almost no games.

I never quite liked the sound of the GB, the waveform was almost always some sort of buzzing abomination, and the noise channel sounded way too harsh a lot of times.

That said, it's amazing how a machine that's much smaller utterly destroys the NES in terms of audio. It's not even a fair comparison. The only thing the NES had going for it was DPCM. The GB had far more tricks that could run circles around the NES.
