Let's look at clay stuff in games. It can be boxart, actual game assets, or whatever.

Are KI's models captures from actual clay models or completely CGI?

Some of them like Eyedol look like clay models, like Goro from MK.

>> No.2217649

Apparently Doom used clay models to some extent, a fact I only discovered last month here on /vr/.

I've already returned it, because I'm guessing other video capturing devices won't act like this, right?

looks like PAL on NTSC

Really? I tried to record from other PAL devices like VCRs and they all worked nicely. I couldn't really change the recording modes because this used some standard webcam driver.

>>2217676
well, that's just what it looks like when i load up a PAL game on my NTSC snes/genesis/etc using a flashcart.

i'm not any sort of expert on video capturing, as i've never done it.
you could probably ask in /vg/ speed running general, they would probably have the best knowledge base since they record all their shit.

I saw some clay models, but I think they were used for the movie.

Neverhood is king of clay. Oh and Skullymonkey.

pretty sure Rare was full-on 3D at that point, just like Donkey Kong Country.

>>2217649
Doom had many models created from clay, steel, and some other materials I forget. I believe some of the originals still exist, and that Carmack or Romero or somebody has one of them on their desk.

I remember the promotional art in magazines making me so pumped for this game, especially since it had earthworm jim in it, until I played it on an emulator years later and it was just a muddy mess.

They did a super basic Eyedol reference in clay then modeled and animated him based on the old Harryhausen films.

The original was targeted for the M2 and Ultra 64 when Nintendo were planning to have 2D Parallax Mapping and Sprite compression tech with the U64 which supposedly could display at 640x480. Which was dropped to make the N64 base model cheaper in the final design and planned to be added back in with the 64DD (Nintendo were even planning a console exclusive of SF3 with Capcom). It was dropped out of that too.

But then Nintendo were telling the devs to cut character concepts like Hobo-Cop and tone down the humor to be less racy. While the game was also too far in dev to be dumped, so they went with the 3D Interactive background and Sprites drawn across 3D objects approach Rare was using for KI Gold.

I wish someone did a documentary because the devs were super talented ex-Visual Concepts team, Interplay was on the cusp of being a huge publisher at the time and the game was being courted by Panasonic, Nintendo and Sony as a console exclusive. It's insane that a product with that much potential collapsed so bad even Nintendo Power couldn't make excuses for it.
