Fuck no. Link's Awakening's Link is THE BEST Link.
He cleaned up that pansy Hero of Time's mess by killing Ganon and reclaiming the Triforce, then the Triforce asked him to save not one, but TWO more countries from evil, and ended up killing Ganon AGAIN in the process. TWO Ganon kills under his belt.
And as if that wasn't enough, he goes on a fucking training journey. Except he gets caught in a storm and his boat is destroyed and he ends up inside the dream of a fucking flying god whale, and saves it from it's nightmares.

This motherfucker is the most accomplished of all of them.

I was too young to understand or comprehend emotional investment and complexity during the NES and N64 era and the "stories" back then were pretty abysmal. Though, that changed when I rented a game in 2000, and though I didn't get to beat it, it's remained the most memorable intro to any game I've ever played.

Some of the games make clear, direct references to other games or even star the same Link. After a certain point, too, they are ABSOLUTELY supposed to fit into a timeline. WW doesn't work without OoT. TP doesn't work without OoT. PH doesn't work without WW. etc. etc.

Yeh, even back as early as AoL and LttP,an early timeline began to take shape. We knew AoL as a sequel(naturally) and LttP took place before Loz1. AoL also introduced the idea of multiple Zeldas. Later,we knew OoT took place even before AlttP. this all worked out fine,until Nintendo decided on the arbitrary adult victory/young victory/link's failure split with the timeline. Theres no reason why this all can't take place on one long timeline.

The ending of Sonic 2. It's mostly the theme but I feel like its overall style is quite unique with the small stills in greyscale depicting Tails and the Flickies.

Re: the spoiler text... "Didn't want to go?" No, in fact it was more like the Boy and Girl didn't want to fight because they knew the Sprite would cease to exist. The Sprite told them to do it anyway.

That being said, still a heartbreaking ending. I always found the line before the boss battle about how the Boy doesn't want to kill the Mana Beast, "I can't kill a Flammie" very accurate to how the player probably feels. That and Pureland. So sad.

Ending to Chrono Trigger, Lucca saying goodbye to Robo and the realization that because they changed things, he may not even exist in the future and that song "Epilogue to Good Friends."

Breath of Fire II

Extremely grimdark but then they EXPLAIN why and it makes perfect sense. It's not grimdark just to be grimdark, it's actually essential to the plot.

The entire point is that the bad guy is just snarfing down on all the 'creamed corn' in the story and fattening himself up on it.
