Ok, /vr/, I've been interested in this console for a little while. A store near me is selling one that also plays Pc-engine. So I would have both English and Japanese gamed available to me. The issue is that the console is $200. Is this anywhere near worth it? If so, how many great games are there for Turbo and Pc-engine. I like the idea of having both available in one console.

A $200 tg16? Nope.

$200 seems a little steep considering you can find TG16s or PC Engines for a decent price and get a Turbo Everdrive which allows you to play games from any region.

That seems really high but I'm not too familiar with the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 library. The Wii's VC appears to have all of the essential games available though. I will say that I've found HuCards to be really neat looking however.

not worth, you can get a pc-engine and a shitload of games and accessories from japan for 50-100$. If you're looking to get into pc engine then you'll want a cd unit as well anways

i will never understand this.

the Wii Virtual console has most of the great games (although it doesnt have my fave, Final Match Tennis)

I would recommend Wii VC, or plain emulation, or importing from Japan.

>200$
Im sure you could find one much cheaper online and have it shipped to your house.
But then again if you've got money coming out of your ass and 200$ isnt a big deal for you then go for it.

Fyi, a TG-16 that's region modded to play PCE will NOT play nice with a TurboED.

However, a TurboED CAN play both TG-16 and PCE on an unmodded console.

So if you're thinking of getting a flash cart, don't buy that system. Get a cheap pce online and an everdrive.

I would recommend just buying a pc engine, but if you want to play cds then get a pc engine duo,but think about it carefully before you buy because its cheaper to get a duo than the cd add on which is quite expensive and rare.

As for turbografx games you can get a converter but you would probably be better off just buying a turbo everdrive and having the entire library on 1 cart, the cd is region free.

i have nothing against emulation, but why the fuark would you pay for it. just hook up your pc to the TV

i have a few games on my wii u. metroid, super metroid, smw, gradius and legend of zelda. there should be no surprise that those are some of my (and everyone's, amirite?) favorite games.

it's strictly for convenience. i have an snes hooked up and an sd2snes. so i have the means to play them on the original console, and i still do.
but when i'm in my living room and the wife is watching jane the virgin or some shit. i can play me some metroid on the gamepad.

that, to me at least, is worth the 4 bucks or whatever it was.

i have an nes with n8 too. so you don't think i was playing nes games on my snes.

Not for that price unless it comes with a working CD unit, and even then it's expensive. (I only know PC engine prices though, but Duos generally range from around 130-200). The general thing with PC Engines is that the main unit will often be cheap but the CD unit (or if it comes with one built-in like the DUOs) will be expensive if it's working since so many are broken by now.

still not worth IMO. would rather just get a chinese android handheld or even a psp for emulating on the go.

If you look hard enough you can find one on the used market for way less than $200. In fact 200 seems to be extremely overpriced unless its a TG16 with the box and inserts (or at least a TG16 with a Turbo-booster) I would go for a PC-Engine myself. I found one used for dirt cheep and I have the full library of Hu-card games (yes i know its all in japanese but some games are very easy to pick up and play). The PC-Engine CD units are also much cheaper and the CD games dont have region protection or anti-piracy so you can play Dracula-X japanese or YS book 1 and 2 in english on your PC-Engine

---TG16 option pros---
Games in English
Might find some games local to you

---TG16 Option Cons---
Price of everything (TG16,CD unit,ect)
Game selection in the US was lacking

---PC Engine option pros---
Cost of everything (system and CD unit for cheaper than a US TG16)
Game selection

---PC Engine option cons---
Have to order online

wat? I was being serious the virtual console has like the bare minimum most basic shit. There are way more awesome games on the turbo than whatever is on VC.

Because it's an inexpensive alternative to the real thing, there's also multiple controller options.

>> No.2208775

No one yet has suggested just buying a Japanese PC engine for $50 and a turbo henshin for $80. You could play NA turbo chips and Japanese hucards on the same console without region modding.
You could still get an ever drive, but collect as well.

There are like 60 TurboGrafx-16/CD games available on the North American Wii VC. I can't imagine there are that many must-play titles missing but I don't know the console all that well. What essentials are missing?

>> No.2209302

it's missing all the good games that happened to be tied to an anime license though like Doraemon or the launch title bikkuriman world , 0 toaplan shooters, no SonSon 2 which is a huge must play title. It is a lot better than I thought it was though.
