It would sell like crazy I'm sure. But they would have to completely remake the game from scratch, there couldn't be an "HD rerelease" or anything like that. The cost to remake it with graphics on par with FFXIII would be huge, not to mention take an absurd amount of time, especially with how slow Squeenix is when it comes to releases anymore.

It's the same fucking shit and no romanization really has an Englsih equivalent. It's not even like the almost-as-stupid Lydia vs. Rydia argument where one can at least argue that Lydia is the more accurate translation since it's pretty clear the name they were going for given FF4's cast names. Aeris and Aerith, however, are both equally made up and equally accurate to the katakana.

Marth from Fire Emblem comes to mind, too. Before Melee came out, his English name was translated as Mars way back when the OVAs were dubbed in the late 90s. Yet I never see anyone bitching and moaning about that.

Because that's her official romanization in Japan and, remember, SCEA translated FF7, not Square. Square probably prefers Aerith. Just like how they changed many names in War of the Lions (Although ironically enough, the names in WotL are actually far less accurate than the PSX script, like how Teta ("Tee-ta" in the Japanese version) became Tietra for no reason in WotL, but that's for another thread entirely)

People should also keep in mind this has been going on ever since the game came out here. Anybody who has the Versus guide for FF7 should know that it always refers to her as Aerith. People will always just prefer one thing over another but ultimately it's pretty much the same name.

None of the PC versions use the PSX translation. None of them. The translation is improved, and it makes Barrett talk less like a hood nigga (not sure how I feel about this; was pretty funny at times), but also censors more language, I think. I'm not sure, but I think that the FMVs are better quality, which they were worse quality in the original PC version as compared to the PSX version. I'm also unsure of this, but I think they fixed the Spirit bug. Also, I believe that they give the characters noses when they're walking around and stuff (unsure if this was the case in the PC version). I usually (probably because of the nostalgia factor, since it's what I originally played) just play the PSX version. I emulate it nowadays and patch the ROM with a Spirit Bug fix. I'm actually doing my first challenge run.

The fuckin Demon Wall in the Temple of the Ancients rekt my shit and I had my first Game Over because I forgot to put Sadness on my characters after I rested. The main challenge/annoyance is getting gil in order to buy the things I AM allowed to buy, since I can't grind and run from 50% of battles.

There's a bug in all versions of FF7. When calculating MDEF, or Magic Defense, the game is supposed to combine the MDEF that your armor provides, as well as your characters' Spirit stats. Well, due to a glitch in the way they programmed the game (and obviously not testing in ANY of the versions they released, from the Japan version, to the U.S., to the International, to the original PC version... bastards), the MDEF value of your armor isn't factored in at all, and Spirit stat alone determines the character's Magic Defense.

I looked it up, and they DID fix it in the newest PC release. Fucking took them like 10 years longer to fix it than independent patchers.
