Post and discuss retro PC gaming hardware, games, etc! This is more of a DOS/Windows game focused thread but all personal computers and operating systems used to play games are welcome.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have one of these? I'm normally a Windows guy but there's at least a few cool games for classic Mac OS X and I always loved the cheesy design of the iBooks.

I own one that I modified a bit. Doesn't seem to boot correctly lately which is a shame as I love it. I've got a ton of old mac games installed on the OS9 side, like AOE, Quake or Carmageddon 2. Great item!

Didn't know age of empires had a Mac OS port. Probably Unreal Tournament would be my favorite, but it might be too taxing for an iBook.

Can someone please show me a decent guide on how to properly set up video drivers for 98SE on a virtual box software, complete with the actual drivers?

I've tried Virtual PC 2007 and VirtualBox already, and I'm about to stab myself in the face.

So, I love red alert 2, despite the fact that I know almost nothing about computer hardware, and it has been bothering me that I have never played that game without massive slowdows on every large map, and it's WAY worse on yuries revenge.

Help me.

What is a good cheap tower that will play red alert, age of empires, sims original, tycoon games...

I have Win 98SE

Installing the virtual box "guest additions" should install the appropriate drivers.

Are you trying to run a different driver thats optimized for games?

>> No.2204770

>>2204513
Guest additions don't work for Windows 9x.
Either way, I think I got it working now.

I used Virtual PC 2007, and this link to sort me out for drivers:

I have drooled for years over being able to play these games on a classic Mac. The only reason why is that I had iMac G3s at my elementary and middle schools and I always wanted to play UT on them. I have little desire to buy a new Mac since I hate OS X, but I've thought about getting an old one to play with.

IMO, a maxed out 466Mhz iBook can be a great portable retro mac gaming thing. They don't cost much on eBay etc. if you avoid those customized/multicolored ones.

I guess iMac G3s can be very good too as some were quite powerful near the end of the production (mine is one of the slowest ones though, I prefer the iBook). Avoid the original mouse though!

Grew up on a 286 with a bunch of EGA games, like the game show conversions, Duke Nukem, Hugo's House of Horrors. Still have all the 5.25s. In 95, got a Pentium 100 which I used to play Rise of the Triad, Command and Conquer, Warcraft 2, Space Quest VI, and many other greats. I got all my DOSbox games off Underground Gamer (RIP), so I'm not sure where a good resource is now. I found a copy of SQ VI at Goodwill, and it is still as great as I remember. I also just acquired a fully functional Pentium 266 laptop running Windows 98, and am going to install Win 98 on an old Pentium 3 with an ISA port I can use for my old Awe32 PnP. Also got a 486 board and processor (UNUSED!) and have a couple old AT cases to put it in. Just need to find out what RAM it uses.

Guys can you recommend me some good turn based games for DOS?
Is for play in Android. I tried some action and sidescrollers and the virtual pad makes me mad. So I wonder if there is really good turn based games. I am actually playing OpenXcom and it works good.
