Hi, /vr/

Since 2013, I've done a thing where I keep track of every game I beat in the year, and as of last year, I want to have at least one game beaten per month. We're one week away from the end of January, and I haven't beaten a single thing yet, so I was wondering if you could recommend a retro game (or several) that would be quick and easy to breeze through.

Any genre works, and I chose to ask you because retro games tend to be easier to acquire, and in some cases, much shorter and more intuitive to play than modern games.

Thanks.

You can beat the Megaman games even casually in an hour or two a piece. Thats including X.

My experience since I started my cleartimes is majorly PS1 PS2, PS3 and PS4 so I'll go through the ones I beat the fastest.

Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Resident Evil series are all also fairly short, anywhere from 3-8 hours. My dino crisis clear time blind is: 5:45, and my DC2 clear time blind is: 3:55:07

Castlevania SotN: is also really short. I just did the whole first castle then just killed Richter at about 4:25:XX, I'd only played it once before though.

I beat Jade Coccoon in 8 hours and 32 minutes over 2 days, again blind.

Tron Bonne Blind was 5:22:XX
MML (played before but I was like 12) was 6 hours + some change in minutes
MML2 was like 11 hours because I grinded a lot for upgrades.

Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve 2 are both 6-7 hours, I took 11 hours because I fucked up my guns and had to grind in the museum for like 3 hours.

2 weeks ago my niece came to my house, I played Aladdin for SNES on a hacked Wii to keep her entertained, hadn't played the game in 20 years and I beat it in less than an hour and a half.
It is still a pretty good well regarded game, so I would recommend that.

Most of the mario games are insanely short.
Sure, clearing World without warps and shit takes a long time (100%ing it) but pretty much every single one of them can be beaten in an afternoon.

Mario RPG can be beaten in like 6 hours or so casually.

Donkey Kong Countries are also the same, very beatable in a single session.

It would help if we had a list of games you've already beaten since we can see your tastes based on that.

I love this game, but the menu system fucks it up. Try the SNES remake with a translation patch or the GBC version if you go for this one.

Okay - just a fair note, I didn't like every single one of these games; some of them I had to force myself through, like Other M and Gone Home.

2013: http://pastebin.com/5kA0BFFz
2014: http://pastebin.com/QtBPw2Da

If there isn't a * after a title, that means it was a replay which is a good indicator that I love the game.

If you liked Wario Land 2 you should play Wario Land 4, you can either emulate or buy it on the Wii U virtual console.
It is great, and it also encourages speed running, so it isnt that long, although the first playthrough will always be the longest one.

Not OP.
I only play Thursday-Sunday, usually only 3-8 hours, mostly more like 3-4 hours on average.

Totally depends on the game but some games can take me 25 hoursish (Alundra... which was pure suffering) and certain JRPG can take anywhere from 10-40 hours, but usually closer to 15-20 on average.

Lately I've been playing non-retro stuff and the average is about 8 hours per game. Which is about 2 sessions, which means I can on average clear about 2 games per week.

Run Saber on SNES. Beatable in 30~min. It's a Strider clone and I find it more enjoyable than the Genesis port. Easily the pride and joy of my sit-down-have-a-beer-and-beat-a-game genre.

You're just cheating yourself with short games like that. Play two games next month and don't mind the length to make up for the lost month.

I've been doing something similar this year just for my own amusement but I'm doing game/week, so far so good.

The other year I beat like 80. One a month is nothing. But if you just don't have the time, any platformer would work really. Samurai Pizza Cats (JP) is like 40 minutes long and I beat it my first time playing it.
