I still can't believe they used the original SNES translation for the GBA port of Breath of Fire II. Was there not a single English-speaking person involved in the transition, hell the original translation process as well? Only Japanese with nothing but a first-grade English textbook?

At least those were still direct attempts; you guys got off easy.
Early spanish-translated games usually got lazy second-hand translations based on the english version. FFVII looks machine translated half the time, continuously shifting from just awkward to downright nonsensical.

Breath of Fire 1 had a very dry translation. Dry as in, they only tell you the absolutely necessary, skipping everything else. Also they didn't expand the character limit, giving as stuff like WtrJr (Water Jar).

I've heard that the Breath of Fire 2 translation wasn't expanded (giving us things like SuedeGN) because they didn't want to expand the ROM just to do that - remember that a bigger ROM back in the day meant a bigger cost (since you need to manufacture the carts). Nowadays you can just pad the file and call it a day.

The Wild Arms 2 translation is hilariously bad. Although they got some good stuff in (like Liz and Ard), most of it was pretty bad. Some dialogue is cringeworthy even for a little kid.

What still happens nowadays, and there are quite a few examples, are games where the translation was really rushed, and there are all sort of errors and typos in there. Examples are Final Fantasy IV for the GBA (there are misplaced control codes in the text) and Tales of Vesperia (typos everywhere).
