Let's talk about memorable manuals.

I don't collect video game boxes but I love getting the manuals. So many are filled with great artwork, beta screencaps, and useful tidbits. They're just good reads. I remember loving as a kid sitting in the back of my parents car reading the manuals as we rode home or bringing the manuals to school and showing my friends games.

I used to rent games and then keep the manuals, returning the game without them. Sometimes it was difficult to remove them without tearing because they glued them to the inside of the rental box. Eventually I had a whole box of manuals for games I didn't own. They never did anything about it.

Certain NES manuals would be full-sized, ie, Super NES manual size. Final Fantasy, Crystalis, and the Dragon Warriors to name a few.

Not retro, but Ratchet & Clank for making its manual a massive fuck-off poster you could unfold and pin on your wall.

Gold and Silver also had awesome manuals.
This same appreciation though is also what drives me to buy stuff like pic related. Especially with modern games not even having manuals.

Civ 2 for pc had a HUGE manual.
The first version of Starwars Galaxies the manual that came with that had metal rings holding it together..... Was HUGE!

You know what was awesome? Official guidebooks.
Toriyama drew all weapons armors and acessories for this manual, monsters, important characters, promotional arts and all the shit. I wish I could find scans somewhere.
