ITT: Retro video game cliches and trends

In the early to mid 90s everyone was releasing a platformer with an animal mascot. So many totally radical mascots with ~attitude~ came out of the 90s

Crash isn't a rad mascot, though. He's more of a moron. Maybe that's why I love him when I hate Sanic.

>> No.2193004

How many of them actually qualify as "mascots" though?

>> No.2193217

>>2192894
That's not even a trend. Disney, WB, MGM, Kellogg's, etc. have been doing it for decades.

not every animal mascot platformer was a generic animal with tude though. Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures was fucking awesome.

Mascots with attitude were a thing during the 90s gaming scene

Everything had "attitude" during the 90's. Everything still has "attitude". Only it's gone from backwards caps and sunglasses to profanity and excessive violence. The 90's didn't invent teenagers.

Robbit is the mascot PlayStation needs, but not the one it deserves.

He never said generic he said radical. Just because you discovered Sparkster recently enough that his radness makes it past your irony filter doesn't make him that much different from Crash.

The bad thing about Crash is that his first game was released two years after the Simpsons Poochie episode, he was born old.

Conker was the last animal mascot with attitude.

Here a SpeedRun of Zero de Kamikaze Squirrel in which they also interview a developer of the game

Don't forget Gex. He easily had more attitude than all the other mascots combined. He was voiced by a semi-famous comedian.
