Do you really think it was that bad?

Yes. No reason to think otherwise.

>> No.2185617

Yeah but then again I never liked zelda 2 or battle of olympus either.
I think super difficult level design and long winded out rpg griding don't mix.

I loved it. I got most of my games used or borrowed when I was a kid because we were poor. This meant not having the manual.

No internet back then either so you just had to hear from someone else at school or something how to progress in games like this.

If you are familiar with this game you know there is no way you could just figure some of this shit out. Made the game feel clandestine and important to me. And the music was sick.

>> No.2185635

Hell no, I loved it.

So you're basically saying that cryptic puzzles that you couldn't figure out without help were a good thing.

What exactly did you love about it?

>> No.2185694

Playing it for the first time right now. What the fuck is up with these invisible floors.

I hated it. I beat the original when I was six and was super excited when a friend let me borrow this. I find absolutely none of the structure the first game had, some of the most obtuse bullshit that I've ever encountered in a game, and stupid shit like invisible pits that drop you straight to your death without warning. Seriously, fuck this game. I want to like it. I really do, but it's just so terribly designed.

>> No.2185707

No, it's a fantastic game that's weighed down by a poor design choice (the long day/night transitions) and an awful script that makes no sense in English or Japanese.

This. It has some really good jams too.

They make the game longer, duh

Yes. Even if you ignore the trivial aspects that Internet "humorists" like to nitpick, the plodding Castlevania engine just isn't suited to a game like this.

On top of that, it's just boring. If the mansions had more interesting layouts, like a Castlevania level, it might be worth it to get to them. Instead, their entire design process seems to have been, "eh, add some stairs."

Silence of Daylight (the town music) is the best and most underrated music in the series.

It's pretty decent with patches. The only killing flaw to me are the boss fights, all of them are ridiculously easy and aren't fun at all.

Confusing as hell, but not outright bad. I had fun with it when I was a kid, but didn't enjoy it as much as CV1 and 3.

I didn't play it for too long but have to agree with this, i loved the music.

>> No.2185773

With a couple tweaks here and there it would be really good.
