Not to mention they're much harder to preserve in good condition. It's much easier to store away a couple of instruction sheets than an entire cabinet with its own poster-sized side art, control panel overlay, marquee and bezel.

Honorable mentions go to punch out! and Raiden.

A decent cab can be built by very basic woodworking knowledge. If you wanna go for all the bells and whistles you probably need to contact some acrylic or other specialists for the side panels and lights and shit. You can purchase components (coin slots, buttons, sticks) from online retailers.

I would personally just make a 2 person arcade -or- a 4 person arcade cab. Avoiding putting a bunch of frivolous stuff like track balls and lightguns on it unless you absolutely must have them. I think those "all in one" cabs with lightguns, track balls, sliders, and all this other crazy shit in conjunction with the standard stick and buttons look fucking terrible.

While it seems like it would be a hassle if you only want to play a game with a specialized controller for a few minutes, I think it would be cool to build a cab with easily swappable control surface panels, so you don't have all that clutter, but you can still have all that extra stuff around if you want it.
